Diesel eng drain plug - washer?
I need a quick reply please...
The diesel engine drain plug, should there be some sort of washer on it please? I'm just in the middle of changing the oil and I cannot remember whether it ever had a washer on it. |
Yes the oil drain plug should have a washer ;)

Thanks both, I thought it should, but I don't ever remember having seen one on mine and no leakage. I have just been doing an oil and filter service, found no washer - checked the drain bowl and around the drain hole, nothing. Rather stuck, so I smeared some sealer around the thread and face, put it back and filled it back up. Must get a washer for next time I do a service. Thanks.. |
With some replacement oil filters for our cars come with a copper washer but unfortunately it doesn't fit the sump plug.
As Phil says above the correct one is the alloy one. Russ |
Yes, there was a too small one included with the filter and the large O ring for the filter lid too.

I bought this one

These are the ones I use when I change my oil, it is always worth double checking the sump plug as sometimes the alloy washer is there but gets missed due to it being tight against the flange.
