Dilema
 

Hello again everyone, long time since I was on here.
I've reached the stage that everyone has or will get to, does she stay or go?
Part of the reason I logged on was to see hoe long ago I bought the car, nearly 5 years it would seem. In that time it's been fantastic, last MOT needed a rear spring and new bushes but that's all it's ever needed along with a rear box section last year. All just wear and tear really.
Things started to change last year though. My wife only passed her driving test a couple of years ago and would never would drive the Rover but then wrote her own car off. Now with no other choice she started driving it. No prizes for guessing that she loves it!
Problem is now she's using it all the time it's getting incredibly expensive to run, barely get 250 miles to a tank.
So, do we buy a 3rd car? My own commuter car is an MR2 roadster & she won't like driving that. Or do we replace the 75?
She thinks the problem is my MR2, but it really isn't. I think having 3 cars is sensible, both have a back up if necessary, but I'm having a hard time trying to convince her of that.
Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem, the wife said either the rover went or she did.

I miss her cooking :)

The cheapest car is the one you own, you won't save any money buying another car. I'd say keep them both.

As topman states above, maintaining three cars on the road will not be cheaper than two, even if one of the two is a low MPG model. This is unless your wife is covering say 20k+ miles in the V6 each year.

Having said that, having three (or more) cars between two people does provide a level of flexibility - something I practise myself.

Just buy a car you like and don't tell her till you pull on the driveway. You will get grief but it only lasts a few days, then once a week has gone by the car is old news then voila! Your in the clear

You can never have too many Rover/ZT cars ;)

Perhaps the answer is a 1.8na 75, it's still a Rover but cheaper to run.

Exactly what I did with the ZT when the 45 started to get expensive at MOT times.

She knew I was going to "just look" at one and the subsequent telephone conversation went,

ME: well I've looked at it and coming home darling (happy tone of voice)

SWMBO: You haven't bought it have you ?????

ME: its immaculate and you know it's my birthday soon.

SWMBO: YOU HAVE HAVENT YOU !!!!!

ME: welllllllll

SWMBO: Hangs up.

Took the view the fairly short term pain was worth the long term gain :}:D:D:}

250 to the tank is pretty poor - mines a 2ltr auto & I get 380/400 between fill ups with mixed driving. More on a run & less round town obviously but never had below 350.
Does she only do very short distances or is she booting it?
Sounds like a MG ZR might suit her better :¬)
