Cruise malfunction

Whilst driving up the M6 cruise light flickered on the IPK and the engine speed dropped to 48 mph. I did a reset to 55 mph but it would drop back to 48 mph. Then it would accelerate +++ until I hit the brakes. I ended up with it switched off.

Any ideas?
Thanks

No Idea.
But part of the system is mechanical. It is situated next to the throttle body, and incorporates a bellow and an adjustable rod in a plastic holder. The rod can be moved in the holder to provide the right amount of travel. Usually it has been painted originally where it was adjusted.
I would, as a first port of call, check here to see that there is no mechanical interference, and all connections are OK.
Then I would check the speeder cable and its free travel and lastly that no carpets or mats are interfering, which I doubt.

If that does not work, then you have an electrical problem.

If you can't fix a problem with a hammer, then it is usually electrical.;)

Thanks Kaiser. I will look for the connections first and see. Just to remind you - let me know if u need parts as I am due back to ZA soon also a member has Rover car badges made to order and if you need any new ones let me know :}

Hi Gate Keeper,
Have a look at the Vacuum pipe and the actuator (i think it called that) on the throttle body.

Gate Keeper 10th September 2012 08:53

Thanks Simon. I will look into that as well. I did check the adjusting rod and found there was hardly any play in it. I am just about to set off to Newcastle via the lakes. I won't need C C here but would be handy to have it back again for the drive back to London and I am wondering if it needs to be working for the MOT?

rover54 10th September 2012 09:33

Its not an MOT feature and not having it working does affect safety. I know you have your car looked after by somebody and you are not that far away, if he needs to borrow a T4 to look at your CC just let me know. It is here to be used.

Gate Keeper 10th September 2012 14:32

Thanks Ed :}

No more problems noted with C C on drive over. I am seeing a member this afternoon who has a T1 and a T4 in Newcastle and as a point of safety I will ask him to look at it. I have not had any warning lights and I will come back to you if I need your help when I am down your way. Thanks for that :bowdown:
Phil

Now let me guess who that is. I think he hold claim to 4 T4's and a T1. Phil, it is here to be used and not gathering dust and it is a no charge service.

Phil-T4 10th September 2012 16:51

Problem is ED, Phil's car is too old for a T4 but i have feeling Brian's T1 will have better results ;)

Gate Keeper 10th September 2012 21:41

The car is very old and the 16 pin socket turned out to be of a non standard design. I think that Rover just put together what they happened to have at the time to make up a connector. It had to be opened up as even T1 was failing to communicate. One pin was found to be compressed and the other pins needed emery paper - a lot of jiggery pokery with T1 various connectors, software discs and eventually T4 did do the talking with ZCS. The instrument panel also had a problem. We discovered the VIS has packed up completely. What was strange was that the CC had not been enabled even though it had been working of sorts. The new light module and the other ECU's are all singing the same VIN tune. We are not quite there and will resume tomorrow :)
