So in order to kick this off I thought I should detail the suggested route from Andrew.

STAGE 6: Chester to Glasgow - Handover from Stage 6 in Glasgow at point to be arranged.

Glasgow to Fort William: 107 Miles (This could be split if we can find 2 drivers)

Fort William to Inverness: 65 Miles

Inverness to Aberdeen: 104 Miles (This could be split if we can find 2 drivers)

Aberdeen to Dundee: 66 Miles

Dundee to Edinburgh: 63 Miles

Then handover to STAGE 8: Edinburgh to Boston at point in or near Edinburgh to arranged.

So, out of our Scottish Members what part of the run can you cover?

Look forward to hearing from you with your suggestions.

Derek

Stage Participants needed please

Things are starting to move well now in some of the Stages, with plenty of enthusiasm and energy.

We do need some more members to get involved, so if you are in the area covered by this stage, and would like to get involved, please register interest here

Many thanks: Andrew

Can we get some timings up? I'm rushing out just out or I'd try and work it out, it may make things easier, but provisionally stick me down for Fort William - Inverness, depending on timings cos I have to get back from Inverness to Glasgow!

Timings

Some preliminary timings
Stage 1 - Cowley to Dorchester - 128 miles - 3.0 hours 6.00 pm - 9.00 pm (19th)
Stage 2 - Dorchester to Penzance - 184 miles - 4.5 hours 9.00 pm - 1.30 am (20th)
Stage 3 - Penzance to Bristol - 205 miles - 5.0 hours 1.30 am - 6.30 am (20th)
Stage 4 - Bristol to Aberystwyth - 189 miles - 4.5 hours 6.30 am - 11.00 am (20th)
Stage 5 - Aberystwyth to Chester - 124 miles - 3.0 hours 11.00 am -2.00 pm (20th)
Stage 6 - Chester to Glasgow - 229 miles - 5.5 hours 2.00 pm - 7.30 pm (20th)
Stage 7 - Glasgow to Edinburgh - 403 miles - 10.0 hours 7.30 pm - 5.30 am (21st)
Stage 8 - Edinburgh to Boston - 274 miles - 8.0 hours 5.30 am - 1.30 pm (21st)
Stage 9 - Boston to Southend - 188 miles - 4.5 hours 1.30 pm - 6.00 pm 921st)
Stage 10 - Southend to Brighton - 121 miles - 3.0 hours 6.00 pm - 9.00 pm (21st)
Stage 11 - Brighton to Birmingham - 185 miles - 4.2 hours 9.00 pm - 1.00 am (22nd)
2230 miles - 55 hours = 40mph average speed

Having written this down, I'm getting very nervous.
Some very unsocialble hours - especially for Devon and Cornwall and Scotland. Plus I was hoping to get the time down to 48 hours, so this may well influence Stage route plans.

Some of the Scotland stage will be on very unfriendly roads, even the main routes are twisty and turny, I've driven fort william - inverness before in the dark and it was a bit scary. The organisation for this will be quite a feat!

The Yellow Peril 16th May 2009 09:46

I didn't think it got that dark in Scotland in June, at least it didn't the last time I was there a few years back. I agree the route is a wee bit unfriendly, but as I did say at the start, this route is just a suggestion. If you or anyone else in that area would like to take ownership of the stage and suggest an alternative route, I have no objections, it's our event and we can do what we like - within reason.

Hi Anna

I have received a PM from Three Sisters (Murdoch) confirming that he is up for a leg on this. As he is based in Alloa then the Dundee to Edinburgh leg may suit him although he has volunteered to cover the Highlands if no member comes forward for that area.

Hopefully we can persuade pab (Paul), Nathan (Poseidon_Tourer), Ross (Whyte850), Gary (Garaidh), Thomas (Thomas1983) or Graham (Graham1961) all to get involved when we see them on the 24th.

Any other Scottish Members? Gerfix, Tazman, WeeMan, Bluey9, Shabbs? Any others? We definitely need more further north if possible.
