Locking wheel adapter broken
I'm trying to remove the wheels on my latest purchase but the locking wheel nut adapter has broken. Markings show F9 and P9. Are these available for sale? I've done a search and it shows lots of removal sets or brand new sets of 4 but no adapter on its own. Anyone got one lying around?

I would knock on a socket to take them off, if you haven't got the right remover.

Can't believe my luck. Visited the local scrap man and after searching boots for half an hour I went to the workshop that drains oils and other fluids and they had a box full of adapters. 5 minutes later I'm leaving with another identical adapter FOC. On the way home I've bought an Irwin bolt remover set. Hopefully I won't get caught out again.

Those are from an after-market set, of which there are thousands. The chances of finding a match are miniscule. Best try to get it of using muscle techniques. Then either buy a new set with a key or as suggested, dump all wheel locking devices and go standard. Who's gonna nick an old Rover wheel?

Top Tip: swap out your locking wheelnuts for standard ones before a tyre change. I am in the middle of a saga with my local Kwik-Fit (who are usually good) who have tightened them so hard even they can't remove them! Glad I checked them, though.

What do the locking studs look like on the car do you have a photo of them, could you not get the little pegs welded then filed flat round the welds and try the socket again, or maybe try the one from the scrap yard but cut one of the pegs flat level, so the three pegs fit into the stud ? as the red dotted pegs look to be in the same place, so cut/file the yellow dot peg level? you have them in front of you is it viable ? Photo below. |
I've no desire to have locking wheel nuts as no one wants Rover alloys anymore so hardly at risk of being stolen. I'll take a photo of the bolt part on the car. Might be able to get an Irwin socket on them? Unfortunately we inherit these problems when we buy cars.
