Vibration at 70mph - Rover 75 2.0 CDTi
 

Hi guys,

Ive seen similar posts before but none dealing with my specific symptoms so thought Id just ask.

Got the car at 96,000miles and now on 101,000miles, vibrations started around 97,500miles.

Sub 60mph speeds it isnt too noticeable, but anything over that and theres a great deal of vibration through the steering wheel. Rear view mirror and wing mirror vibrate also making the image in them somewhat blurry from the high frequency vibrations.

For such an incredible car, this vibration at motorway speeds somewhat ruins the driving experience, and about 90% of my driving is motorway.

Had all four wheels realigned, no sign of improvement. Is it likely a re-balancing issue? Or driveshaft maybe?

Check your front lower arm balljoints and rear bushes.

I had a similar problem when the lower arm rear bush was worn, and it's coming back now that there's play in the balljoint.

Along the sane lines, had a 75 that did that, turned out the ball joint on the wishbone arm on the wheel hub was loose.Some times the pinch bolt that holds the ball joint onto the wheel hub gets worn and wont hold it firm.

The main thing that is speed related not just to the Rover but other cars as well is wheel balance.

Oddly enough it seems to start at around motorway speeds as well.

This has occurred on several cars that I've owned and on my wife's cars too.

Balancing the wheels has always cured it in every case.--:D

I would tend to agree and it's so quick and cheap to get them checked/balanced it ought to be the first thing to try

Sounds like wheel balancing is in order then! Ill try that first, cheers guys! : )

with regard to wheel balancing, I now ask them to balance to 140mph. No more vibrations at motorway speeds, but keep an eye on the speedo as it's easy to go too fast without noticing ;)

it may just as simple as you might have lost a balancing weight rgds mark

I've never actually found out if my wheels vibrate at 140 mph but I keep on trying.---:cool:
