the Truth, what is the truth?
 

OMG seeing is believing, well not according to channel 4 news.

They have just done a story on manipulated pictures/video on facebook being uploaded as a detrimental video.

apparently this new technology can stake a still picture I presume from the TV and create a whole new video. The examples they showed were of two woman slurring their speeches and on of Trump.

Because it all looks so genuine views can mistake it as the truth resulting in someone being ruined or elected.

Facebook apparently wont take the videos down.

Indeed we do - I don’t trust a lot that is presented to me these days. I don’t think we can trust what we used to have faith in, what we used to believe in.

I have been dealing with an individual who was wrongly accused by her employer of a breach of confidentiality - a nonsense allegation as was soon proved - but the owner of the firm threw a hissy fit when forced to back down and tried to force the resignation of the lady and for her to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

She refused as she didn’t need the job and had already secured another.

The point I am making is that when you have organisations and employers prepared to disparage and rewrite the “truth” to protect a lie, to fabricate a new truth, what hope has the average person?

The situation even in our academic institutions is hardly one that provides “moral guidance” - Dr Emma Chapman has won a significant case against UCL (University College London) where the University tried to gag her after she was sexually harassed by a Professor - who had a history - of such predatory behaviour and the University covered up his behaviour with pay offs and forced signings of non-disclosure agreements if the abused person wants a decent reference. Something of vital importance to the individual if they want to progress their career.

It seems to me that our faith in “truth” is already at an all time low.

The question has to be what comes next?

Never trust a single news source.

Do your research before assuming anything.

There are still people that tell the truth and do not intentionally lie, unless it is to the question put to them by their wife or girlfriend, does my bum look fat in this?

My OP was a bit different to people not telling the truth, it was about how we could be tricked into believing that what we were seeing was the truth. We could watch the actual people saying all sorts of things.. as we could see it it must be true but how wrong we would be.

With video and audio being manipulated what is the truth?

Video manipulation used to be so power hungry and time consuming, it wasnt worth the hassle, but nowadays with apps, and higher quality phones etc, it is so much easier.

I think I know the video referred to in the original post, (it is a good few months or longer since I saw it). Watching a couple of Trump videos on YouTube actually explains a lot. (close your eyes and think of 7 year olds in a playground lol)

There has been a viral video that has resurfaced this week that shows some very well manipulated videos, with THIS one being the one that seems to have fooled a lot more than the last one a year or so ago, but that was a segment from THIS video - it is very good in itself!
