My ZTT.. very nearly a write off

On January 12th, driving back home from Florence I was involved in an

accident where luckily only the cars were damaged. I was in the overtaking

lane, doing probably 70mph, when an Opel Meriva suddenly cut across just

in front of me attempting to pass a slower car. I braked very hard but hit him

in the rear left corner. No other cars were involved and we managed to reach

the next motorway exit. After having exchanged a few pleasantries, insurance

details and having taken a few photos, I managed to reach home.

Damage was extensive as parts needed were bonnet, wing, bumper, headlamp

and sundries. Being realistic a 13 year old car with nearly 300000 miles is

worth next to 0. The cost of the new parts in Italy was well over 3000 Euro

plus painting and fitting. It goes without saying that I had no intention of

breaking my car, but honestly I didn't know what to do. Then a couple of lucky

breaks. My local breakyard got a facelift 75 Tourer.. just incredible, so I got

bonnet, wing and two headlamps at a fair price. Then I received a check from

my insurance company that will cover a good part of the bodyshop fee.

I have to mention that I have a brand new genuine MG Rover premium bumper

that I never came across at fitting. In a couple of weeks I should be driving

again Black Pearl.. let's hope for the best

You had a lucky escape there Luciano, and excellent news that your car gets to live for another day.

Well done for sticking with it and not taking the easier option of just replacing it for another car.

Hopefully it will look like this once more (but with the premium grille of course)

Great work Luciano. Yours is certainly one the most stunning ZT-T's I've seen with that bespoke interior. Glad you are ok. Hope you are back on the road soon. Ben. :}

So glad that you were not injured, and great news that you are going to have to polish again.

Sorry to hear of the accident Luciano, really glad to hear that you are OK.

Your ZT-T is one of a kind, pleased to learn that you are well on the way to organising repair to its former glory.

Best regards
Jim

Well, that’s got to be a plus point Luciano. Hope everything goes to plan.
