Scotland
Hi All.
Just got back from two weeks in Scotland in my bog standard 75 02 diesel tourer. Towing my caravan with three adults up and an awning, caravan must have weighed nearly 30cwt. Did two thousand miles in all from home town of Nottm. Took 63/4 hours to get up to Callender which was 330 miles. Even towed her over Glencoe and back. No glitches, no problems, sang like a bird all the way burnt no oil and did an average solo and towing of 33mpg. Worked it out the other day my wife and I have been caravanners for over 40 years and my 75 is the best tug yet. Long may she live. |
The wife or the 75? :laughing2:

My bog standard 75 02 diesel tourer will be doing the same thing in about 4 weeks. We will be doing the run from Kent (where I live) to Inverness (where my parents live), stay a couple of days, and then on to the Isle of Lewis in the Hebrides.
Last summer when doing this, we did about 2200 in 2 weeks. Our last run to Inverness was Christmas week and we did Sittingbourne in Kent to Inverness in 11 1/2 hours including 3 stops, 620 miles giving about 48mpg. The roads were quiet though. Which way did you go? M6 - are there any roadworks (or did you use the A1)? We go A2/M25/M1/M6/M74/M73/M80/A9 Regards EnEnGee |
For our honeymoon we went from just outside Cambs up to Kingussie which is about 15 south of Inverness in just over 8 hours ( no caravan in tow) and used the A1, had a great roadwork free run up the only major roadworks are on the Forth Road Bridge which is having resurfacing work due during the weekends which caused us a 30 minute delay on the way home.

Think a 1.8 petrol would be up to towing a small caravan??

Hi En En Gee.
Motorway all the way if poss. I do not like the A1. Having the van on the back I like to keep it rolling. No we did not meet any roadworks. And for he who asked NO the wife is not the best tug ever but that's a different story. |

1.8 towing
Hi Scooterchick.
Yes your 1.8 will pull quite a decent sized caravan, it's a good heavy car so safety is no problem just power. Stick to something with an all up weight in towing trim of no more than about 22/23 cwt or the equivalent in German and you should be OK. Regards Peter. Of course I was kidding about the wife!!!! |
