Stricter MOT tests on the horizon.

The (WCRAQ) want stricter MOT tests to include efficiency tests on diesel DPF's.

The first reading of the diesel particulates filter bill has already passed through the House of Commons. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BssblrJodCs

That should have been included from the word go as it would have brought dieselgate to the fore earlier. However, for those systems that emptied on full throttle would be harder to identify.

Wow.... from your link "If a DPF is faulty, a single vehicle can produce the same pollution as a three-lane, 360-mile-long traffic jam of vehicles with compliant filters. That is the distance from Huddersfield to Land’s End. Shocked? So was I,’ commented Barry Sheerman, MP."
I'm shocked too. Is that correct? Based on that, I'd vote for the stricter legislation myself.

There was some brouhaha that started a couple of years ago whereas remote roadside sensors in some urban & cities were picking up really high emissions especially from vans since a lot of stuff is ordered online & delivered by vans. One Mercedes van model (forget which model) was pulled & tested in real world driving conditions & found to be 18 times over the Euro 6 emission limit.

I think the group action law suits against Mercedes are still ongoing with these cars/van models.

Over what distance/time?

I find for the time being, that particular statistic has been firmly arrested by my BS filter. :rubbish:

The used diesel car market will end up full of MOT failures, The MOT failure rate for emissions is already at record highs, https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/fle...e-to-emissions

Hi, how will the dpf efficiency tests effect those vehicles where the filter has been messed with?

It said the loophole of a smoke test & visual inspection of the DPF by the MOT guy will be replaced with a much tighter DPF efficiency test with new emission testing hardware.

Mot

They are evil, after telling everyone to buy diesel cars, now trying to get them off the road. Is it going to be impossible to pass an mot in future with our diesel engines?
