What I didn't do to my Rover 75 MGZT today

I played with an X5 E53 today

The man who this car belongs to a member on here Les (Shodan70) had an issue with his IKE (that's IPK to you and I)

He had had a BMW "specialist" look at repairing the missing pixels on the trip computer display (sound familiar), which had resulted in the total loss of his display.

So, not wishing to open up his second hand IKE, given that it cost about as much as I normally pay for a complete car, I set about it using the BMW scanner 1.4, normally used by us mere mortals for enabling message centre digital speedo.

Well all went swimmingly, I was able to sort out the ZCS coding mismatch by copying the EWS coding data from the EWS to the IKE, similarly I was able to replace the foreign VIN with the correct one :D

All I am left to do is figure out how to write the correct mileage to the eeprom, sadly like 75/ZT models, this appears to be in a secure area :(

Still it's not all bad, at least he doesn't need to purchase a new IKE, as they are..........now everyone sitting down......£890+coding :eek::eek:

It certainly made a change from frabbling with Rover electronics for a change.

Incidentally, it was possible to change the SA data of the ZCS coding to reflect different factory options, of which there were many.

The conclusion, it's not quite a T4, but for £15 it was quite entertaining for me at least :)

Brian :D

Bolin 8th November 2015 17:29

Ok, so does that mean if I get a £15 BMW scanner I can do my own ZCS codes at home?

(subject to working it all out correctly and not bricking the car!)

That would be really useful for me but a beginner's guide to ZCS coding would be necessary:o

(Another thought - for remote boot release a second string needs changing in addition to the SA string, so presumably this wouldn't help with that particular task?)

klarzy 8th November 2015 17:47

all I want to know is which code to change to open the boot with a long press of the door open button..

You've got to have the right BCU fitted it not just a case of altering the coding ;)

which BCU PN Russ?

is it possible to upgrade to a message centre IPK if you have the low line BIN in the eeprom and can copy / paste the EWS data from the EWS to the IPK?

No, you can't change ZCS coding on R40 models with this tool sadly :(

No, for the same reason above, the only way you could possibly use this tool for doing that, would be for editing the data within the IPK eeprom to reflect message centre enabling ;)

take it that means multiple values in multiple locations with varying values dependent on multiple equipment combinations (not just a simple bit value change one fits all scenario)??

Ah well, probably for the best as otherwise there could be dozens of bricked 75/ZTs as a result:eek::o

I don't suppose you can code remotes to a BCU with this? Sounds like it can do the digital speedo and fault codes but that's it?

marinabrian 9th November 2015 21:50

Well I didn't uncover my 75 and polish all of the numerals and letters from the numberplate, nor did I paint my grille satin black.

In addition to this I didn't fit an aftermarket exhaust tailpipe, nor a pram handle to my boot.

I didn't get lazy locking enabled, in fact I didn't get a T4 session, as far as I know my car has never had a T4 session (and I've had it nearly 10 years) and now there is no body near me with T4, it doesn't look like it ever will!! I;m hoping that nothing ever goes wrong!!

It maybe just the image but if he is then that wont help any pain.

Mike Noc 29th November 2015 09:45

No offence taken Ken and you are absolutely right. He has been on a diet for the past few months and is gradually losing weight.

Nothing drastic - we are taking it slowly and steadily, hopefully that may help his mobility.

Hi Mike.
Just a thought but have you ever given your dog any High Strength Glucosamine.
Our dog has had two knee operations to sort her out. Her joints where crumbling away and the only option we had left was surgery for her. After the op she was left in a pretty sad state and we thought her days where numbered. Six months later there was still no improvement.
She was walking around but very stiff and mechanical like. Some friends of ours suggested we tried some High Strength Flexible joint Glucosamine tablets ( branded Vetzyme )
We or the dog had nothing to lose so I duly bought a pack.
No word of a lie Mike , within two days of taking them she transformed from this old arthritic dog into a young puppy again. We could not believe the change in her. This was three years ago and she's never looked back. She still runs around and enjoys long walks at the ripe old age of 16.
Worth considering Buddy.

I would love an old Norton, my mates dad has one that he has owned from new back in the 16th century or so:Snow:

Saga Lout 13th December 2015 16:34

I didn't either.

I didn't do anything to my Rover or ZT today, I fitted a clutch to an 02 Ford KA that still has its sills on. It was an outside job and cold and wet. We strung a cover over two cars to keep most of the rain off, it helped a little but It didn't keep the floor dry. A stuck driveshaft made it harder but, after a few grunts and groans it has a clutch....Labour costs....Nothing as it was for a friends daughter who really wouldn't ask me unless stuck.

marinabrian 19th December 2015 18:46

Well I did nothing to my 75 or ZT today :)

Instead I programmed a replacement key to a Ford engined Kit car, diagnosed a fault on a non starting diesel auto Tourer, 160 upgraded a diesel auto saloon, then witnessed on another car something I've never come across.....a seized turbocharger on a facelift diesel.

However I did obtain a very good replacement upper rear bush for my new dampers for the ZT.

Let's see if it's not raining tomorrow, so I can fit the now assembled replacement rear dampers so I can see what the new springs are like on the ZT.

Oh, and I forgot to put the ZT boot carpet and side liners in the shed, so they're even wetter than usual now :getmecoat:

Brian :D

murphyv310 20th December 2015 09:02

Hi.
Well I like this thread and it gives me a lot of chuckles, nice little things about members dogs and their other interests, so it should remain, please and thank you!

My day yesterday was spent in the shed with a 1958 Murphy V320A. Hum on the screen after 20 minutes and generally flat looking. It took a while to sort the hum problem which was a leaky valve base in the 6/30L2 line oscillator that was inducing hum from the heater pins to the grid of the oscillator. The base is well hidden behind the mains socket so a pain to do. After that I had a go at the flat picture, this was caused by an open circuit 1nf decoupler in the vision IF, funnily enough I had replaced what I thought was them all about 8 years ago when I got the set. The set is now working 100% and its back to its normal resting place.
Oh and I never even started the 75 yesterday
Happy Christmas
:christmas::new_year:

Peter can I ask you while you are around and about so to speak....
I have an IPK with trip computer and wondered how much they were worth? or would it be worth hanging onto for a while to see how the newly found ribbon cables worked out?

Anyway back on topic.
I've not done anything with the 75 today as I no longer like it. It's got three months MOT left and I doubt it'll pass without money spent on it.
That and the running costs plus the atmosphere on the forum now makes me think I'll just get a wee run around like a Panda and buzz off from the bitching on here.

Ratty 20th December 2015 14:36

I did not drive my 75 today as I went out in a supercharged ZTT V8.

Several rule breaches have occurred in this thread, namely...
1. You should remain courteous and respectful to other users of the forums at all times. You may obviously not agree with some views but do not let it descend into arguments or abuse, either publicly or via the Private Messaging (PM) facility. If you consider a post to be offensive then you should report it, not take matters into your own hands.
6.1 You may not "Troll" the forums - A "troll" is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community such as this, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.
7.1 Where a thread has been closed by a Moderator, for whatever reason, you may not continue the subject of the closed thread in a new one.
So for now, there is no option, for the time being, to close it.

suzublu 21st December 2015 12:35

I've just spent the best part of an hour removing all off topic posts, & posts relating to them, some innocent posts may have also been deleted, for that I apologize. So now can we keep the thread on topic please, any more argumentative posts will be removed. I really have better things to do as I'm sure you all do.
Merry Xmas to you all.:xmas-smiley-008:
