K9 Companion - Skin Complaints

To all you dog owners out there... Do any of your doggies suffer any allergies in this sunny weather; any skin complaints?

Out little Yorkie suffers terribly with sensitive skin, her eyes go pink and puffy, flaky dry skin; basically all her pink bits are going black, and her black bits are going pink.

Even her lady area gets puffy and swollen, the vets reckon its a skin allergy...

How does your K9 companion cope with allergies?

Years ago we had a lovely little Westie that suffered a similar problem, though her eyes were ok. In the end the vet gave her a course of injections that just about cure her but we were also very careful with diet.

Yes I have a westie with allergies and he gets scaly sore skin patches/scabs. I think its grass/pollen as its a summer complaint. I use a natural product called Dermacton. There is a shampoo bar, spray and cream. It works better than all the vet remedies tried, and unlike them no side effects.

Seems to be a bit cheaper, thanks Dawn. ;)

We've been to the vet again who has now given her a big whopping anti-inflammatory injection, more antihistamines and some more antibiotics.

All the vets we have seen reckon its a hypoallergenic skin compliant, her tummy has gone pink again which is a good sign, and the Chlorhex Hibiscrub shampoo is really working on her dry skin; its the swelling we now need to get down.

We have seen a dozen vets, they don't think its cancer, but our main vet will do a biopsy in six weeks if the swelling hasn't gotten any better. She is ok otherwise, but you can see its getting her down/depressed, especially when she wee's; because it stings.

I just wish dogs could talk...
