New Bank of England £50 note
http://news.sky.com/story/alan-turin...-note-11763499
A great gesture to honour this man, such a shame he was treated so appallingly - as indeed have so many others |
As always with governments, too late for anyone younger than 50 ish to know what this very clever man really brought to the world. Alan Turing was dreadfully treated.
Governments always do the same, they honour the mouthpiece but never the people that really did the work or their ideas. |
ditto above posts. I saw an in-depth documentary some time ago that also covered the many other staff at Bletchley and their otherwise unremarkable lives. They rarely get a mention although their input was huge. The thing that stands out for me is the modesty and ordinariness of all those people working under such intense pressure.

I'm pleased to see him honoured this way. Disappointing that a section have apparently picked up on it because he was gay. Who cares? He should be admired for what he achived

Disgracefully treated in an unenlightened age. Did so much for his country to be treated so shabbily.

I endorse all of the above. :bowdown:
Just think, in seventy years' time people will be making the same criticism of something that is accepted today. I wonder what it will be? Simon |
Horace was given a state funeral after the battle of Trafalgar but, if if I were Hardy ... well, call me old-fashioned. :shrug:
|
I do not want to think what world might of look like today if he did not achieve his work at time world needed him.

In total agreement. There is a monument to him with much information in the centre of Sackville Park in Manchester, his home town. |
So they put him on the £50 note which not many will see never mind own, & which is also not accepted by quite a few shops:eek:
Nothing much changes then:duh::getmecoat: |
