Oh. My. God.

And here I am moping about a vandalised wing mirror when I should be thanking my lucky stars I didn't burn to death.

I honestly didn't smell anything, so I can't tell you how long it was like that or even when it happened. Only thing I can think of is that it failed during a heat soak incident while I was out of the car, and even then I couldn't tell you which one.

Jesus.

Hi David. You are really very lucky if it happened while you have had the car. It could have gone up in flames by the look of it.

This is interesting, in so much as it is a 1.8, 2 speed, 3 wire, early type fan. i.e. 3 brushes.

The brush holder backplate clearly has 4 brush holders, which suggests that both the 2 speed and 3 speed fans were built from essentially the same components.

This would appear to answer the one unknown factor in my article "how to identify your fan".

The answer is that the brushes in both 2 and 3 speed fans are (in all likelihood) the same dimensions.
