6 Speed Gearbox
Hi guys.
Noticed this mentioned in the 300 BHP 1.8T Thread. A Cooper S box could be used? Is this something that could be used in a ZS 180?? in know its not going to be easy but is it possible? Stephen |
I think the 6 speed Mondeo box is similar

"Similar"
What does this mean? The box needs to fit the engine - we have 3 different ones, even if the ford and mini boxes are similar, how close do the bel housings come? My guess is nowhere close, but you have to put them next to each other. Huw |
Do they come with an external slave cylinder????? Here's hoping that someone can perfect one of these options!

The last of the 25's had a Ford gearbox from the factory. Ended up guessing the oil level after changing the driveshaft boots as I couldn't get a definitive answer. :Snow:

Be interesting to see if it would easily fit to a v6, my 190 could do with an extra gear on mway runs.

Bearing in mind all the manual gearboxes are manufactured by Getrag ie FORD, I'm sure some Blandeo box could be cobbled in...... Brian :D |
Go on then, who's going to be a pioneer......
I reckon this might fit with a little persuasion ;) LINK Brian :D |
Try this one for the 1.8T http://shop.quaife.co.uk/lotus-elise...gement-gearkit ;)

Before trying to fit a 6 speed you need to work out what the overall ratios are - 6th might not be a higher ratio, it could just mean that there are 6 gears spread over the same range as the original 5.
We had a long debate about this in a classic club where some members were complaining that third in the 3 speed box wasn't high enough and they were going to work out how to fit the 4 speed from a later model but didn't understand that on both boxes top was straight though and what they needed to do was find a taller diff, so you need to be sure that the overall ratio including the diff and tyres is a higher ratio (unless the reason is to have a close ratio box for optimum use of the revs. |
