Automatic Gearbox Manual Mode
Hi everyone,
Having taken apart my interior I noticed that the rubber boot of the gear selector has a cut out for what I think would be a place for the lever to slide in for a manual mode. I know that the freelander with the kv6 had the same box and in had a manual "Tiptronic" or however is called mode. I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried or knows if it's possible to gain access to a manual mode. It's nothing important obviously but I'm just curious as if this is possible to do Regards, Thanos. |
I also have a Jaguar X-type. That has the exact same box. The Jag has the automatic on the right side of a "U" shaped gate, with the manual mode on the left of the U.
Oh, and guess what! No funny oil requirements for that box! As a matter of interest, the changes in the Jaguar are faster, if I am not mistaken. |
It wasn't the same gearbox in the Freelander, and the Freelander box won't work in the Rover 75, just in case you were thinking of doing a swap.

Is manual mode not just shifting the lever from “D” to 4, 3, 2, 1? Or have I misinterpreted what you are asking?🤔 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
All my cars have manual mode, probably because they're manual :drool4:

No I didn't mean shifting the box from 2-3-4-D I meant like a manual mode with +/- where you could go through all the gears. I'm fairly certain that the box is capable of that. I was just wondering if anyone has ever bothered to make this work. I was expecting the sort of answer if you want a manual mode just get a manual but I do like the auto it would just be nice to have the ability to go through the gears on back roads from time to time. In the 75 when you take off the centre console there is a rubber boot around the shifter and there is a cut out on it on right side where "D" is. the kv6 freelander has the same thing but in the 75 the selector won't slide in there. I'm pretty sure that the the freelander jaguar x type and R75 all used the Jatco JF506E 5 speed auto probs different variations of it but essentially the same box

Having dug out a lot of research on the 506 box recently for fluid change, I dont recall the jag tiptronic box being the same (the non tiptronic was but with different ratios i believe) Sent from my SM-A600FN using Tapatalk |
