3rd under bonnet fuel pump
 

I'm on my 3rd under bonnet fuel pump and it looks like my leaks are coming from the top of the current one, just like the last 2. I'm getting rather frustrated at the leaks over the last few years and its putting me off the car. The continuous leaking not only smells, but its made a hell of a mess of my drive! Can anyone suggest a longer time frame cure and not just a quick fix.

I'd suggest making sure the leak comes from the pump and not a poor seal between the upper pipe and pump. A suitable jubilee clip is much better than the standard rover offering......

What make are these pumps you have been fitting?

If cheap and cheerful then treat yourself to a Pierburg.

Fit and forget then enjoy your car again. :}

As Mike says above fit an original Pierburg pump and you shouldn't have any problems.

I know they're not cheap but they do last, I personally wouldn't fit anything else.

I've seen aftermarket ones that have lasted as little as 3 hours, some may be guaranteed but that doesn't help much when they pack in and leave you stranded.

As above better quality pump and check pipes for chaffing, cracks and joints etc I found it best to use pipe clips and not jubilee's..

Mike don’t forget TI automotive they come in a Pierburg box and they were fitted OEM factory mate, often found on very early facelift that had two pump system :} I think Pierburg took them over, rimmers sell them.

I checked all the pipework yesterday afternoon and used a dry cloth to wipe all the crud off the pipes. Obviously with t he battery out nothing was flowing through the pump or the pipework and all was perfectly dry. I tightened all the hose clips too. On restarting there was an immediate leak at the top of the pump which carried on leaking when maneuvering:mad: down the drive. Diesel spots every few yards, so its no a small leak!
