The power seems to drop off when accelerating hard (approx 4k revs) sometime can be quite violent! I've changed the coil packs, re-gapped my plugs, changed the vacuum to silicone pipes and tested the solenoid by putting 6v on to it. Going to try cleaning the actuator rod next!

danbmx_69 4th November 2012 17:55

yeah i think that sounds like a good port of call next, make sure the rod is free

Only a small up date here, went to a local garage today so I could have the air con 're gassed as when I bought the car it wasn't working and after replacing the fan resistor still didn't work so it was ither the compressor not working correct or needed some fresh refrigerant so had it drained down today and 're filled and now I have air con that works :-)

well this is my first car i have had with air con and i have to say at this time of year you can clear the front windscreen so fast with it, cant waiit till the summer now :)
and the guy at the garage doing the air con was looking around the engine bay, turned and asked me did you fit that turbo your self ha ha, just goes to show how little is known about these cars

Brek 20th December 2012 08:20

Thats funny, 'did you fit it yourself'?. Yeah it does show that people think they know it all and actually know nowt. I have found a tidy looking zr for £400, drop a z&f tuned turbo in there and it'll be a monster. Hmm, tempting.

yeah it was quite funny and as i told him no thats how they come out the factory he looked at me quite pizzeld, so i guess hes never seen one before and was like oh i am surprised they would put a turbo on a k series, and then i told him that i had it maped and it was running around 200bhp and you can guess what he said next.....

and yes i do also think a 1.8k turbo could be quite lively in a zt and could make for a verry fun car

TheSamPeople 9th January 2013 01:04

had a right nightmare today , all was fine yesterday after the car had been run up to normal temp and all the idle parameters reset on the T4, only had a slight leak on the bottom hose that goes form the gerry T straght down the rad and to the PRT it was weeping around the top,

so today i went out took the pipe off cut about an inch of it as the top had become very soft.
reinstalled the pipe started the car up it was idleing at around 1k
so just cracked on to bleed the cooling system and i could here what sounds like an air leak comeing some where from the inlet manifold and it wasnt there yesterday

so took a short trip to check it was all driveing ok about half way pulled over, and reset my stepper motor and then the idle seamed to be ok after that drove it back home and that lower pipe on the T peice is still weeping coolent:mad: so had a guts full today and just left it

danbmx_69 7th April 2013 21:49

2 Attachment(s)
So as you can see I have made my own bottom hose for the car to stop the weeping of the other one, so I fitted this last Tuesday and while i was underneath noticed that the PRT was hanging down a bit, so I put a big zip tie around it to hold it up a little higher and fitted this pipe, run the car for a few days and was looseing slight ammounts on water and couldn't see where it was going, on friday on my way home I could see a little steam now and agin coming out theough the grill while I was sat in traffic so keept an eye on my coolant temp via OBD, once I got home switch the car off got underneath and had a nose around and then could see that due to me tieing tje stat up a little I had upset the lower water feed pipe for the turbo and it now had split :'(, this is not what I needed as I were due to be leaving saterday to go down to brooklands for MG eara, luck enough eurorover (wyn) had a spair pipe so saterday moreing I was out side at 8:30am fitting the pipe I had from wyn hopeing that I didn't have any more problems and that the car would make it to brooklands, drove down there car was fine all the way, but just before leaving the show I spotted a small puddle under the car agin, toped it up and drove home, nothing else has been spotted yet, so I am hopeing its all good form here, will check in the morning to see if any coolant was lost on the way home, just hope I don't have any more leeks now, below is the pipe I made with a 32mm stainless steel 90 useing some on the o.e hose and replaceing the bad part, and a photo of the car at brooklands motor museum today

When I first bought my 75 there were a number of small cooling system leaks.I managed to sort them all apart from one, which turned out to be external HGF.There was no sign of any leak whilst the engine was hot as it burnt off the leaking coolant, but as the engine cooled over night small puddles of coolant formed on the garage floor.Coolant was collecting along the bottom edge of the exhaust manifold.Apparently it's quite common that the heat from the turbo causes this on standard/poor quality head gaskets.Had the MLS fitted now for 3 years and no further coolant loss :)

danbmx_69 9th April 2013 21:45

Thanks for the input there worth thinking about, but I niped up a few of my hose clips yesterday drove home left the car had a tiny dribble on the floor the morning after, but today so far nothing at all, so I am hopeing problem sorted, will see in the morning if there's any thing under the car

VVC-Geeza 9th April 2013 22:03

Would be worth doing a pressure test if you have any further loss,an excellent way of identifying the source of leaks :)

thaanks for your input well appreciated, all seams well now, see you at POL if your going?

danbmx_69 12th April 2013 20:58

ok so today i wanted to get my rear bumper spats on ready for POL, the only reson they havent been fitted yet as i was wating for my new wheels to come as i have to remove the rear wheels to fit the spats i thort may as well wait untill my new wheels come and do them the same time, but they still havent come yet and i was hopeing to have them intime for POL :(, so i started to fit them today any way,
so car jacked up wheel off
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...psd2b80019.jpg

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...psd1d87ca0.jpg

one side fitted
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps9a164183.jpg

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...psfc14230a.jpg

then went around to the otherside and my locking wheel nut decided it didnt want to come off and it wanted to destroy itself and the wheel key , so i tryed a few things to get it to fit agin and tryed removeing the nut but wouldnt play ball, so i have to remove the side spat i had fitted as haveing one would have looked silly, so now i have to find a few wheel nut key if i want to remove any of the wheels form my car and still have to find a way to remove the one that is now damaged:mad:

but i did manage to give the car a quick detail today ready for POL, its just a real shame the state on my grid spokes really let the car down

danbmx_69 20th April 2013 17:34

had quite a busy day today i managed to get the wheel nut off, welded a bolt on to it, but the welder was turned up to high and blew though it opss... so turned it down and welded another one on top of it as i could get a socket over it, but managed to get the wheel nut out so thats the main thing :D
the wheel nut bit of a mess i know
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps45d7cf2f.jpg

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps8f9f8cc9.jpg

have done a bit of damage to my wheel but is dosent matter because when my new wheels come these are going for refurb and will be my winter set
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...psdea66287.jpg

so after POL last week driveing back in the rain the car got stinking
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps7aadaf41.jpg
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...psb3918583.jpg
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps224fcb25.jpg
gave it a good wash and then a nice coat of auto glym HD wax, and now you can really see the metallic comeing though due to last weeks glaze
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps20538762.jpg
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...pscb49b202.jpg
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...psb5b950a5.jpg
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps170c8f8b.jpg
also today i took my wheel arch liners out and give it a good clean behind there, i will in time underseal under here
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...psd423a5ba.jpg
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps3cb7e2e8.jpg
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps48c1f274.jpg
also fitted my bumper pods the same time
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps5affd6b9.jpg
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps09089616.jpg
and also have done the spy hole mod:D

Looking better and better Dan,

Have you lowered it?

What are you doing with the Quad exhausts the bumper trims? Still looking for a second or just taking the existing one off?

danbmx_69 4th May 2013 13:08

here we go with another update,
had some mats made for the car
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps75c1f680.jpg

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...pse1df3b43.jpg

started to polish up the air con pipes in the bay as they looked dull
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps58e0d495.jpg
after
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...pse406def8.jpg

after yet still losing coolent, traced it back to this pipe
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps4fe5b7ef.jpg
as you can see its not very good at all

so i got hold of some flexible silicone hose that you can bend, as seen here
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps8da7daeb.jpg

and replaced the hose with this and also done a small bit after the stat

danbmx_69 23rd May 2013 19:59

so here we go the wheels are on!!!, now as many people would probably agree choosing a set of wheels isn’t an easy task, I looked at so so many wheels before deciding on the ones I wanted, but it all comes down to personal preference, now my method in picking the right wheels and look I wanted, I always liked dark wheels on dark cars but didn’t want to do black as it been done to death now and a lot of people do it, I wanted to do something different, so I have always liked dark grey wheels on a green car it I think it contrasts the colour well and help break it up, and I also like dished wheels and noticed that if I got a stainless steel lipid wheel it would still complement the chrome door handles and they wouldn’t look to out of place form a side view of the car, as my car is quite dark with tinted windows and wind deflectors it I tort it would look odd having just a dark grey wheel and then the door handles looked out of place in chrome, so I looked though many wheels, didn’t want anything like BBS LMR's although I do like them, they have been done a lot and I wanted to be different and stray away from the normal wheel selection that you see, so I settled on these I know they won’t be to every ones taste but here we are , i also had to guess the offset as i wanted them to just end at the end of the arch and not stick out to much,

Place in Port Talbot about £50 + vat per wheel. What wheels you got and how bad are they?

Hairpins. They've been curbed on every wheel and it looks as though previous owners didn't clean the wheels often because the laquer has lifted in parts on all wheels.

They are quite poorly. But look ok from a distance if you squint :)

The car's starting to near completion now then surely Dan?

I think the wheels are alright. I know what you mean about the having dark wheels that aren't just painted black. You've made a good call with the colour there because if they were black it would look a bit underwhelming.

danbmx_69 26th May 2013 16:42

done a little bit more work today on the car
took the bonnet release bits off and sprayed them, i was going to do them black but as i had a colour match can here i decided to do them body colour didnt turn out as good as i had hoped but they look ok and much better then they did
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps913f25a2.jpg

back on the car

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...psd2a26649.jpg

i also sprayed up some peeny penny washers as the bolts i put on yesterday the heads wernt quite big enough
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps1c44cdb3.jpg

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps79fb4c3e.jpg

also droped the oil today
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps07b7e5ba.jpg

and changed my rocker cover bolts to some stainless steel ones that i bort for my old car but never used, new bolt on the left old one on the right, not a very good photo its to dark
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps5128afe2.jpg

i did also take off my rear wheels and paint the disk and caliper but for got to take a photo before the wheel went back on

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps99a3ef15.jpg
so there we are the car has had a full service now so hopefully should be good for many more miles of enjoyment :D

for some reson they dont look as nice in the photos are they do in real life, two firends have said to me they didnt like them after i sent them a photo but when they seen them in the flesh it changed they're minds, but i do understand that you cant please every one with wheels or we would all be boreing and have the same ones :D

thank you for the kind worlds guys, really dose make all the work worth while when people say nice things,

MG Tom
the vvc inlet is just less prone to warping like the plastic one dose and you can get slight coolent leaks, and they look nicer :D:getmecoat:

as for the remap i cant recomend it enough, imo this is how these cars should have come out the factory, it is very smooth to drive and just has bags more torque lower down then the standard map MPG hasnt really changed ither, get it done and i dont think you would be dissaponted :}

another up date is here:D
had a busy evening on the car tonight fitting some lowreing springs to get rid of that horrible arch gap up front and hopefully make my wheels look a bit nicer to
i didnt get mant photos along the way,

in this one i have removed the whole strut and while it was out give it a good clean up under there
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps8cddbfe5.jpg
then a nice coat of under seal
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...psbab6f729.jpg
strut before i fitted the new spring
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps4a84d6c8.jpg

strut with new spring all inplace and with a nice coat of underseal :D
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps7c2a92d6.jpg
managed to get the front to done today so hopefully get the rear ones done tomorrow, but when i put the car on the floor it didnt look lower at all so i do hope as they settle in it will drop a bit

dan

MG Tom 31st May 2013 20:18

i fitted some center caps to match my other badges
before

after
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...psf0990bee.jpg

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...psffcc40c2.jpg

but because my center caps are so domed they started to fall off a few days later :getmecoat: so i pulled them all off and will have to find some flat caps the right size and then try agin maby then they will stay :D

what do you people think better with or with out?

Mischief 6th June 2013 20:14

i have thort of this but the caps really are to domed for them and they would just lift all the time around the edges, i evan warmed them up with a hairdryer while putting them on as they are like a gel type badge and evan that wouldnt sofen them enough so they would take

i wanted to tidy up the engine bay by spraying the fuse box cover, plug cover, air box and battry cover

here are the bits
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps95b877c1.jpg

some primer and a bit of green:D
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...psad3fb184.jpg

put my new sticker on that mark form z & f sent me
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps88a059ad.jpg

air box in primer
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...pse3cd921f.jpg

coated gloss black
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...psd57b8117.jpg

also the fuse box, now this is where i tryed to do some green detailing, and yes it did this with a very small brush :o
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps0bd6d034.jpg

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...pseeb1a7c1.jpg

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps3f5a8405.jpg

then some lacquer coat
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps613fd2d0.jpg

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps87a164f4.jpg

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps0179e576.jpg

it didnt quite work out as good as i had hoped it to, as it was very hard to paint in the detailing, but its looks alright form a distance....

put every thing back on the car

How are you finding the handling with the new springs Dan?
