VIS broken, help!
 

I've known for a while that my VIS motors are dead!
Lates kindly refered me to the How To link.

After reading it I decided to give it a shot, took the 2 motors off and opened them. I didn't quite understand from the 'how to' if the screws were meant to goto into the plastic switches or simpley push on them. So instead I resoldered the connections and put it all back together.

That worked for a bout a week! I'm guessing those little legs on the switch went again because today the motor was making an unhealthy constant buzzing and prior to this the ride was randomly lumpy (mostly when cold). Also the eninge was really vibrating! I had to pull the plug off from it and drive without, would that cause more or less damage?

Any advice, anyone?

If the levers are all still working correctly on the flaps (no ticking or death rattle) then you'd be best off ordering two new valves which are typically around £60 each. I have just changed the one on mine, and you need to swap the rubber seal across to the new one.

I've just taken it apart. The valve arm seems quite smooth in motion. The reason why it was going nuts and not switching off the motor is because the switch has been crushed in!

You can just about see the circled switch is pushed all the way in.

Know a trick trick to fix it or a where to find a new switch to solder in?

Do you know what the part number is? (It's the one on the top I need not the one on the side)

And if I put it back but make sure valves are open will this cause any problems if I continue to drive it?

The part number on it is MKE100100.
That part doesn't show up on Rimmer Bros.

I'm guessing the part number has changed. Do you know what it is?

I am not sure what the part numbers are for the complete valve box unit, but the MGOC workshop ordered mine for me. I believe these can be obtained easily enough but take a few days to deliver from Xpart.

Ok, cheers martin. I think I'll give xpart a call in the morning. I don't think there's much point trying to repair it, it's pretty knackered.

That's a bit unfortunate, rare for a micro switch to jam like that, have you tried Maplins?

Can I ask what these valves do?
I keep hearing of the dreaded VIS motors and such...

These motors open and close flap valves inside the inlet manifold. They operate at certain rev ranges to optimise power and fuel economy. Supposedly.

I've not tried Maplins. I've ordered the new part from Xpart. I've become very grumpy because of this problem.

Amdathlonuk, it took me a long time to figure out what exactly these motors are. It would be nice to have as much details as possible in one place, maybe all can post up here with others experiences?

I have read on the how to forum about how to repair motor. What I didn't find clear was there are actually 2 different motors and also if the manual drilling was to drill into the switch itself.
I also thought glue from a glue gun may work to secure the switches but I didn't want to try in case it melted and ceased the motor.

I have noticed without these butterfly valves working it becomes a lumpy and unresponsive drive, much like driving a car with a choke on or a flooded engine.
