Condensation
 

As the weather starts to get cooler I know I am going to get dripping windows in my little tourer with it being old and not as fancy as some newer ones. I still want to use it on the winter months. Any wise owls that can give me some advice on how to minimize the condensation? I know about leaving windows on night latch and some of the obvious stuff, but it still seems to happen. Any ideas?

Hi Dawn,

If the condensation is occurring when the car is out of use, then moisture must be getting inside somehow. I know that it’s easier said than done to find the source.

If the condensation occurs during driving then (1) renew the pollen filter and clean out any soggy leaves from the plenum chamber and (2) use the air conditioning.

I’ve had condensation problems too. I recently discovered that my fresh air/recirculation flap wasn’t closing properly because a self-tapping screw in the linkage was missing. I fitted one and am waiting for a humid autumn day to see if the repair has been effective.

No, you misunderstand. It's my caravan "tourer" not car lol! That's why its in the caravan and boating bit. ;)

not a fix but it works for me
moisture grabbers, its a plastic box with granules on top then holes in the lid
i put one in the front and back each box collects about a litre of water about every month,no musty smell no damp sofa, buy 10 a time of ebay free post

They're okay for storing the caravan, but what about when you're in it? Would they collect it fast enough? I aim to do some winter caravanning! :)

Other than stopping breathing I can’t think of anyway of stopping it. Maybe purchase a Karcher window vac, I use it in the house in winter mornings to clear the condensation on the windows

yes they work when in use because your opening windows the door breathing ,bodyheat etc

Would need to be a tiny one! The van is very small. Might have to look at upgrading next year to something a bit bigger (not newer lol)


I'm sure I saw some small dehumidifiers in B&M, but can't find one now. The Karcher might also be an idea, just vac the stuff up now and again lol!

The old caravan's - no wall + roof + floor insulation, plus single glazed windows were never intended to be used in winter - if that is what it is. More modern well insulated ones should be fine, within reason, especially with a good heating system.


Pretty much like a house - insulated well with proper ventilation, it will stay dry.
