Rescue a Cowley Car Anyone?

I was approached by a neighbour last week who called around in his sisters car. She lives in Germany, and has decided to dispose of it as it's not really being used over here any more and is taking up space in his garage.

I'm not selling it, but merely offering to put anyone interested in contact, so I hope this will be OK here.

It's a Cowley built car, first registered in April 2000. It's a 2.0L auto in red with black cloth trim. MOT runs until 30th.March 2021. I couldn't find the identity badge with the model designation, but it's got foglights so I'm guessing its a Club SE?

All four tyres are good, there is a rub on the front bumper which may poolish out, and it's only done 56K miles with a reasonable service history.
All the upholstery is in good nick.

Some photo's here - it's got a Birmingham Registration Number and was supplied by Edwards which was a dealership owned by John Edwards I think.

It's living near Warwick, and if anyone is interested drop me an email and I will give you a contact telephone number.

Seems too good to scrap.

That Reg number doesn't inspire confidence !

Sonic ZS 17th May 2020 17:45

Nice, low mileage Club SE in Copperleaf - can't be too many Cowley cars left with sensible mileage like that. Did your man give a ballpark figure on price ? :}

Oldmanlogan 17th May 2020 18:45

Very nice and clean looking how much please

dattrike 25th May 2020 13:02

Thanks to Jeremy (Jezzer1) it now resides in sunny Tewkesbury as a partner for my diesel :D
I will get the belts, water pump and a new metal thermostat housing done soon at College Motors
(will ring them tomorrow to see when they can do it). VIS motors may a need refurb (need a new battery in my tester),
but I know a man who can :D.
It did feel like they were not working on the drive back home.

Sonic ZS 25th May 2020 15:44

Well done to both of you, great to see one being saved and kept on the road due to this club and it's members ;) :}

victorgte 25th May 2020 21:09

Well done Dave. I guess the owner of my old car was not taking a cheeky low offer then?
It has not appeared on EBay again yet. Might have sold?

Rogue 26th May 2020 00:32

Congrats.. It's good to see another old timer saved :)

He did sell it Vic, a day before the lockdown was eased but I couldn't justify a drive down there. He wouldn't hang on to it as he needed the space.

dattrike 27th May 2020 21:10

Front bumper changed for a Cowley copperleaf one I had spare, VIS motors changed for a good pair (both duff)
goes much better now. Going to College Motors on June 4th for full service, cambelts and water pump.
Hopefully have the metal Kaiser thermostat housing by then to be done at the same time.
I will put a few pics up after I've touched up a few scratches and run the DA polisher over it.

.

dattrike 15th July 2020 18:03

With thanks to Simon at College Motors, now back home with new cam belts,
Kaiser thermostat kit, full service including iridium plugs, auto box oil change,
it was even washed before I picked it up.
It took a while but I was in no hurry as I've got the diesel to use,
that's now with Simon for a few repairs to it.
It is a completely different driving experience between the V6 and the diesel,
the V6 is so smooooth and much nicer to drive if a little slower to accelerate
but it does sound nice when wound up.
Pictures to follow when I get time and find a nice location.

PS: still need a passenger manual smokestone cloth seat if anyone has one.

Also big thanks to Dave Stocktake for the Vis motors

I'm a fan of Copperleaf, well I would be, I have one. Lovely colour. :drool4::drool4:

dattrike 26th July 2020 10:39

As the vin checker says no record (must be one of the lost Cowley records)
I checked on the IPK and the build date is 0500 so May 2000.

A big thank you to Chris Marshall near Burton, went up today to pick
up a passenger Cowley seat with a good back on it. I was expecting
to load it on my back seat and change it when I got home,
nope, Chris got the seat changed over for me, even went to the trouble of
putting my connectors for the air bag and tensioner from my old seat to the
new one as it had been hard-wired by a previous owner and disposed of the old seat.
Well above and beyond what I expected.
Again thank you Chris, it was a pleasure to meet you and your wife.

New plate looks great. I'm always jealous when I see that placement of the Rover badge on the boot. Looks much better IMO. Is that a cowley thing?

R75800sd1 14th January 2021 11:37

Looks great. Like the number plates. I hate to see cars restored an a fortune spent only to spoil the effect with post 2001 typeface on the number plates on pre 2001 cars. Especially when silver on black! Yours are spot on. I'm in the market for a rear smiley would you mind saying who made yours? Cheers

Yep, changed to the all in one plinth at Longbridge. You can change the plinth to a Cowley one with "ROVER" on:cool:

Perhaps in the future. I've already removed my plinth once to put a new badge on it (nowhere to plug in a hairdryer down at the car :D) so I feel I should enjoy the fruits of my labour for a while

dattrike 23rd March 2021 11:21

Flew through the MOT today with no advisories. Very pleased with that.
Tester let me go under whilst it was in the air, hardly any rust at all,
inner sills very good, outer sills just a slight discolouration of the black paint.:D:D

Briodyjl01 23rd March 2021 14:11

Do you know any of the history with this car are I have one ending in LOE and that is a factory reg number and I would 99% say This is a factory reg number.

dattrike 23rd March 2021 14:54

No I don't sorry but check out post #1

No , not exclusively :} My '51 reg Longbridge model has that boot badge :}

Annfield-East 23rd March 2021 16:35

Boot plinth and badge.

It was a Project Drive alteration for cars produced from 04 June 2001, VIN 218712 as per item 10 of the Project Drive Illustrated section of this forum. Its an easy retrofit; just done mine.

Hi Dave
Sorry to hear that, old age is not good to us is it, maybe you need to get a Freelander type car it makes getting in and out a lot easier ;)
