Turbo Hose Set-up (1.8T)

1 Attachment(s)
With thanks to member Sheraton, attached is a schematic of the turbo hose set-up on the 1.8T.

These are how they were set on my car, but I noticed that the black hose going to the turbo (compressor) body had worked loose and was lying free.

So, I decided to switch the yellow hose from the turbo wastegate and put it to the compressor housing instead (in place of the black hose). Then put the black hose to the wastegate (basic swap).

It seems that the couplings on the end of the hoses fit better this way around (the wastegate node on the turbo is larger than the turbo body node - and the hose ends seem to match better).

Switching them around at the turbo end, of course, means that I'll have to switch them round at the BCS side too (but that's easy).

Just wondering if anyone has any pics of the set-up from factory?

Unfortunately, can't test the turbo as car is on SORN at the moment.

Cheers,
Karl.

EDIT: The rubber connectors are the same as used on the Classic Mini engines. I got some from eBay.

How'do Karl :}

If your hoses have worked loose in the past it may be worth fitting Silicon Hoses.

I replaced mine with Silicon (purchased from ebay) Have had no issues with hoses working loose in the 3 years they've been fitted :}

Thanks TC :bowdown:

Yeah, this is the way I now have the hoses set-up at the turbo end. So, I just have to switch the black and yellow hoses around at the boost control solenoid to match the last pic (easy enough!) :)

Karl.

Hello Paul. All good, but loads of work to get done on the car :getmecoat:

The rubber ends are a little loose on the OEM hoses, although switching the black and yellow hoses around at the turbo end has left them fitting much better.

Might end up having to go the silicone route though, if they don't stay securely in place.

Will keep any eye on them once I'm back on the road..

Cheers,
Karl.

;) I know how that feels - my list of "things to do" seems to get longer the more i do :shrug:

I had my car on a SORN for a fair bit of last year - it's worth the wait and effort just for that first drive after getting back on the road tho :cool:

hopefully you'll be enjoying the Car back on the road soon :}
