just typing helped
just typing a question in the technical forum helped me answer the question.
would a 7/8 AF spanner be ok for doing the belts. I think the nut is 22mm, 7/8 AF is .009 of a mm bigger, so yes, I think it will do As for why not use a 22mm spanner... I don't have a spare 22mm ring spanner to cut up but may well have 7/8 AF macafee2 |
7/8" = 22.225mm If you're going to try this then make sure to shim it well. I wouldn't try it with a spanner that loose against tension.

Hi Ian, don't know if this will help or not but, I did the belts on my diesel earlier this year. After months of trying to get a spanner to fit in the gap from below, I finally gave up and removed the top engine mount (whilst supporting the engine). With a little bit of wriggling I got the ring spanner on and the belts were replaced in no time at all.
So if you haven't thought about going in from the top, give it a go before ruining your knuckles with a loose fit AF. Best of luck!!!! Jim |
now i'm confused. One table I'm looking at shows 7/8 AF is 22.22. Another graph shows 22mm is 0.866 inches, oh poo inches not millimetres. It is not 0.009 of a mm it is 0.009 of an inch. 1 inch is 25.4 times bigger then 1mm
how stupid I have been. Looks like I will have to keep my eyes open at the car boot after all for a 22mm spanner thank you gents for the help and saving me from a disaster macafee2 |
Hi Ian.
Get your self an Aviation spanner and grind the end down, it is 24mm for the tensioner pulley, to change the large belt and 22mm to change the small belt https://i.imgur.com/IClbeptl.jpg1 https://i.imgur.com/hQigvGSl.jpg2 https://i.imgur.com/Ruk2Iyjl.jpg3 https://i.imgur.com/xJYXkyFl.jpg4 Link to Aviation ring spanner https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Flat-Avia...AAAOSwuGxZlWpj You could even purchase a set of Aviation ring spanners they are very useful indeed ;) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BERGEN-7p....c100005.m1851 |
