Looking for a good digital vernier caliper
 

Looking to upgrade to a digital vernier caliper, can you recommend one?

Needs to be smooth when slid, accurate, measure up to 5-6 inches, choice of metric and imperial reading, measure internal and external and I would prefer it to have a protective case.
It will get used where there are all sorts of fluids, oil, cutting agents, mentholated spirit.
Any other things it should have?

No idea on how much money, I don't need a Rolls Royce a Mercedes will do but I would look at a Ford if you get my drift.

I think a member here has this one or at least this make. No idea where this sits in the quality range

Have a look at Mitutoyo, I have used them for years.

It's spot on for accuracy and reliability Ian, I've one just like it ;)

I have Moore and Wright, and believe it or not the Mitutoyo is also made in the UK.

It's certainly better than the tat I've seen some people use.......in fact I used mine yesterday, perhaps it was the picture of the brake pipe measuring you saw :shrug:

Where does that fit in the quality range? If you use it then I take it it is quality.

Ian it is superb quality, that tool is now just over 18 years old, used almost daily, and as accurate as the day I bought it.

I know this as I had it recertified last week :cool:

I've just ordered a Mitutoyo and it looks to come with a carry case.

I do like precision tools and electrical tools to have carry cases, not just cardboard boxes that some seem to come in.
