knocking noises
Hello all,
This query may have been asked before but I can not really find an answer when searching. I have noticed over the last few months a knocking noise under the car, seems more on the passenger side, which today has got worse. I originally thought I had left my garden fork in the boot and it was knocking about. This was not it as it was empty and I will hear this noise mostly over bumps (normal town driving speeds 20-30 mph) or if the road is rough. Never at motorway speeds (65-70 mph). Today, the noise has been noticed a lot, especially at low speeds once the accelerator pedal has been let go, where the revs drops. Before, it would be the odd 'clunk' sound that could be heard but now once the accelerator has been let go I have heard several 'clunks' together which I could not determine if the sound was directly underneath on the passenger side or in the under bonnet area towards the passenger side. Does the situation outlined sound familiar to anyone or can anyone else help with some advice as to what this may be? Many thanks, |
Jack each side up in turn, secure it and then check for play in the wheel top to bottom and side to side. if there is play then look behind the wheel to see where the play is.
You can do the same with the droplinks - try lifting them up and pushing them down with a crowbar |
If it happens when lifting off the throttle and car in gear then check the rear engine mounting for play.
