"They walk amongst us".........
..............................Whilst giving the Bear some TLC under the bonnet today a chap walking past, and in his fifties, looked at the engine and asked, "What engine is that then?".
I replied, "It is a Ford Mustang V8". "Well I never, I never knew there was such a thing as a Ford Mustang Estate Car". I said, "It's not, it is a MG ZTT with the engine fitted................" "Don't be ridiculous, you said it was a Ford Mustang". And off he went muttering under is breath. |
Been there got the tee shirt..........
Like the time I was cleaning Ramon, guy walked past and commented about the V8 badges lifted the bonnet to show him, "never came out the factory like that" said he, "I can assure that it did" said I. He wasn't convinced, wandered off shaking his head! |
There's a guy goes on youtube commenting on rover 75/mg videos who simply can't handle the fact a v8 was ever made.
Doesn't matter how many links or photos you supply, he's adamant that the 2.5 v6 was the largest factory fitted engine to any variant. And he has to be right 'cos like all these eejits ''he should know, he used to work for rover'' Rover the biscuit tin makers maybe :D |
I have a mate who worked for Rover when they went out of business and he did not even know they put the V8 in these cars
He knew about the SVR as his boss managed to borrow one for a weekend but when I got my ZTT 260 he was amazed. But if you think about it I don't remember any TV advertising and as they made less than 900 in a couple of years they were not exactly everywhere even when new. I have done 10k in mine in the last 12 months and in that time I have only ever seen others when attending an MG event. |
I saw a program about Rovers, featuring a number of interviews with employees.
To put it mildly, I was not impressed with the quality of humans featured. I think as Rover slowly sank, so did the quality of the manpower, I guess. |
I once worked for a canning factory, this machine i was operating was making the ring that the lid fits into at the top of paint can. The machine was about 30ft long with a series of dies,at the end there was a new boy stacking the rings in boxes. One time a jam in 1 die caused half a ring to be made, but machine just keeps running,i walked around back to see the boy had filled 5 boxes of half rings. " nobody told me they were no good" :D

They walk amongst us...
Whilst at a show with my Mini, I saw a chap looking at the bonnet badge with a puzzled look on his face. "Ok there?" I said, "You've put a Morris badge on it" he said, "that's because it's a 1960 Morris Mini-Minor",I replied. "Minis were made by Austin" he said, and left shaking his head! Ho hum!
