Wrong gear teeth rear ads problem
Hi All
Hope this makes sense Just had a mate plug my 2.0cdt tourer into reader and came up with rear drivers side ads sensor faulty and gear thooth wrong on say side. How do I go about fixing the latter problem can get the ads sensor. Does the rear bearing contain the gear teeth? Many thanks for getting this far And many more if you can help |
on the back of the bearing housing is a ring with slots/holes in it, the sensor detects pulses as the hub turns, this tells the ABS if the wheel is rotating or stationary.strip the hub off and check the ring is not covered in rust particals the back plates go crusty also that the ring has not become detached from the hub(this happend to mine) there are no gear teeth as such, probably just a duff sensor if the reader says so. you don't say if the ABS warning light is constantly on this would tell you to get the car plugged in and read.;)

Hi
Sorry for delay thanks muchly for your reply. The ABS light comes on at start up goes out but the brakes feel and sound awful after a while the ABS light comes back on and sometimes the handbrake light. The brakes are then quite. |
most common cause of this is a rusty backplate has damaged the magnetic ring on the rear bearing. Rear bearings are not difficult to replace. you are best to change the backplate whilst you are in there if it is poor condition. It could be that it is just the sensor but more likely the bearing

Thanks
So if I replace bearing and back plate do you think that should clear the problem? |

In most cases the answer is yes, unless the ABS sensor as been damaged, first you need to get the hub off and take a visual look at the back plate and wheel bearing. If the back plate is not to bad they can be scraped of any rust, cleaned and treated then painted, check the bearing also for ant rust particles as suggested above. https://i.imgur.com/EcncmRRl.jpg1 https://i.imgur.com/21rOS4xl.jpg2 https://i.imgur.com/gdnfTgBl.jpg3 |
