Trailing arm - screw identification

Anyone know the name or part number (preferably both :D) of the little 8mm screw that goes into this hole in the trailing arm (1 screw per arm)?

TIA. :}

Rimmer/Xpart don't list it as a separate part so doesn't have a P/N as such.

You can get M8 bolts/screws of any length from eBay. What does it do?

It fixes a small bracket to the trailing arm. The bracket guides the flexible brake hose round to the caliper.

The screw doesn't appear on the trailing arm page but it might do on one of the brake pages. The bracket is fairly important because it stops the hose running on anything as it turns the corner

Have a look at this one TC - https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-FS108207L - it holds the small handbrake bracket ,#9 here https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID001570. Its says 20mm for that one - the one I've taken off is about 18mm.

The bracket I'm talking about is quite a serious affair - about 3in long with a flange and a grommet for the hose to pass through - it must have a p/n. If it does, the screw will too.

Bracket is #17 here https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID001566

No stock, so no p/n. Brilliant :mad::mad: - how helpful of Rimmers.

Wouldn't one of these do?

Whether 18 or 20mm long won't make any difference.

I suspect the FS108207L is a substitute for the 18mm fitted originally . If the 20mm doesn't bottom out there is no issue using it . FS will be a flange head screw . An 18mm one would be FS108187L . I believe the 7 is for Dacromet finish . Rimmers list a FS108181L which I think is the same size with just Zinc Chromate finish not Dacromet. .

Yes, I think the 20mm stainless will do fine (see below).

The 20mm can't bottom out because the hole goes straight through to the empty tube in the trailing arm - i.e it's not a dead-end hole.

FS108207L Dacromet will fit too.

So it's a question of which finish is better at anti-rust - stainless steel or Dacromet?

Btw, the bracket that this screw is for (Brake Hose Bracket #17 here) has the part number SHU100250.

Thanks chaps.

Aarggh, I bought the wrong bolts - I chose the M8 x 20mm from here and they're far to fat to fit the hole in the trailing arm. I mixed up socket size with thread size - an 8mm socket will undo the originals, so I bought M8 size.:duh:

Originals: 8mm socket fits the head but thread diameter is 5.9mm and thread length is 12mm (overall length 18mm).
The ones I bought: 13mm socket fits the head but thread size is 7.9mm and thread length is 20mm (overall length 27mm).

So everything I said earlier is wrong. :duh::duh::duh:

I've now ordered the smaller bolts.

A note of caution re the brackets - they get pretty rusty and they're NLA, so best to whip yours off and de-rust/paint them. NB. It's easy to round the heads on the bolts, - an 8mm socket is the best tool,* not a ring spanner. Access is almost impossible unless the road wheel is off, or you've got extremely long arms and can see round corners. ;)

* Difficult to get on properly due to the heads being rusty.
