How many Rover 75 watches are there?
 

Hi guys,

I just managed to find a Rover 75 watch. It has green leather bands (looks a bit like crocodile leather) and it has an oval shape with the Rover speedometer as a background.
It looks really nice.

But when I Googled the watch in the past, I would mainly find ones with a red leather band, an oval shape but with a *glossy* outer case. Mine is matte. Also, looking at Google, I see that there are those with a chrome-like finish, but some also seem to have a slight bronze shine to it (or its just the lighting).
Yet, mine is matte with a silver-ish finish. Which I haven't seen yet.

I wonder, did Rover (or the Swiss It's Time company) make several different versions? Or did I buy a fake?
I do know that there are a few (round) fake ones on ebay, and you can get one from YourWatchDesign, but how about the original Rover 75 ones?

They look perfect for everything except easily and accurately telling the time!!!

Yep, almost as bad as watch faces with no numbers and yet you instantly know the time so no real problem :shrug:

Thank you Suzublu. but I'm afraid that isn't really what I am aiming at. I am not referring to the round replica one (actually, I mentioned that in my first post).

I am wondering why some have a matte casing, while others seem to have a glossy chrome finish. As can be seen in the pictures I added to my post.
I also show one photo in which it kinda seems like it has a bronze-ish glossy casing, instead of the chrome gloss casing on the other photo (or the matte silver casing on my own photo).

So, how come I have been able to find a few different models? Did they make different watches? Where people given a choice in the finish they wanted at the time?

Before my eyes got too bad and my hands got too shaky, my "other" hobby was watchmaking. I have all the gear (and probably no idea) and haven't seen a car related watch that has impressed me yet! Most of them are very simple movements, purely marketing exercises.


Some of the Formula One watches are OK'ish but if you want a proper watch, get a genuine Breitling, Omega or Roly Poly but ............................ do not get taken in by the very good fakes! If you think that Rover cars have officionados, just get onto some of the watch forums. Phew!

Particularly TZUK, the place is full of nutters.

I've also got a few sterile watches that I've assembled myself, and many dozens built by others (mainly Seiko).

I had a "75" watch and was spectacularly unimpressed by its quality. Very cheap plated cases, and a tiny mass produced very cheap quartz movement. £5 market stall tat would give them a run for the money.

So I'm starting to think nobody actually knows any real details on these watches? Like the different colors or models they offered?
