Sat-Nav's!
 

Is your firmware up to date on your older Sat-Nav devices? I've just been reading about a upcoming event (Weak number rollover) which will happen on the 6th April 2019 which could leave many older sat nav devices useless. I've just been in touch with the place I bought mine from as I've never updated the firmware in mine but it has been accurate, more so than the Sat-nav in my Niro :eek:.


They said it's free lifetime map updates and I just need to contact them via email for instructions!!!.....here's hoping :shrug::D

I was warned about this a while ago but from what I understand it is only a problem on Satnav's that are older than 10 years old without any updates.

If you are still using a satnav that old you are one very lucky as a lot have expired by now and secondly your maps must be very out of date.

It will be interesting to know how many still use a satnav that old?

I have been. old addressees are still in the same place so it was ok for me

How can one tell if one is going to have a problem ?

I asked my mate & he said " I heard something about the coding for GPS satellites or something. Has to do with time synchronisation I think. Some old Coding used x many bits for recording time correction or something and that value is about to run out. Newer stuff uses larger number."


They say it's a once in a lifetime event, after the change on 6th April 2019 the next "weak number rollover" will be in around 150 years time.

I thought the week number rollover happened every 19 years?

Well the good people at Xgody (Sat-Nav brand) have sent me download/installation instructions for the latest EU/UK free lifetime maps to install.

I'll see if I can make a pigs ear of that. :eek::D

I still have a TomTom one, bought it in 03, still works fine & never updated anything.
It does tend to 'go off on one' every now 'n' then and still refuses to recognise the QE bridge lol.
But until it goes completely awol i'll continue using it, I prefer to use my phone anyway tbh and use 'WAYZ' mapping, far more accurate than google maps.

Interesting- I find my iPhone and google maps really good - tho of late my Navall Star iGo has been behaving itself as well. But that is not always the case.

What do you find better with WAYZ ?

Yep I couldn't make head nor tail of the pigeon English instructions as how to get the maps installed on the device, the instructions bore no resemblance as to what I was seeing on my screen.:shrug:
It lives in the drawer now with a mobile phone that gives me headaches lol. :D:p:


The Sat-Nav in my Kia Niro isn't playing ball either! the last four times I've used it it's sent me to the wrong address despite typing in the postcodes correctly. :shrug:
I'd go back to using A-Z maps but I cant read the tiny print any more.:eek:
