My original question in the following thread is now irrelevant. Hence change in thread title. However if you scroll on to post #33 I posted a how to fit an internal coolant level sensor and hook it up to a low line IPK as Rover had intended to but somehow omitted it. High line IPK with trip computer now included in how to. Rev02.


Does anyone have an early or pre production vehicle with a black coolant expansion tank with a coolant level sensor fitted?

In particular I'm interested in obtaining the ZCS codes from the vehicle in a bid to establish what ZCS coding is required to enable the IPK led for the low coolant level.

it may just be a straight n/o input to ground ????

Unfortunately not the case. I have tried grounding the contact pin that is linked to the IPK and coolant level led in question. It does absolutely nothing when grounded.

Perhaps if there is no way of coding with a ZCS string then maybe the alternative is to bypass the original led circuit and make up a new circuit with its own power feed, as I would ideally like to utilise the low coolant level icon that is fitted in the IPK to maintain originality?

what does Rave say about the input? I do not remember seeing any selection for this on the ZCS programing apps I have seen...

Hi.
What is the sensor in the expansion tank, a simple float switch? or possibly a hall switch & how many wires does it have?
It is possible that the connection to the IPK may need to go positive Perhaps 5v or 3.3v.

There is no ZCS coding available for this option. It was perhaps intended to be fitted to early vehicles but was missed out in production for some reason.

As an example when running T4 Landrover you can have the option to change to a low coolant level sensor (and adding in the switch of course) via the LCS codes and this is a simple select option in T4. However the 75 is different with ZCS codes.

The later 25/45 ZS/ZR TF etc all have this coding to allow for the low level sensor too.

I would have thought that if MGRover had initially built in the low coolant level sensor in prototype models there would be a ZCS string available to use ?

As there is no expansion tank available for a 75 fitted with a genuine switch(there is a retro fit non OE switch option which trying to avoid) I am planning to use a Rover 25/45 late model or a Roewe 750 with simple float switch with two wires.

I installed a Vindaloo level sensor in MFL, which worked for two minutes then went phut. 'The tank is with KC13661 if any use to you, I'm sure he would send it on.
I was going to fit a float/switch from a Nilfisk pressure washer that would have fitted nicely but the project died a death. :eek:

Just a thought. My IPK is the low line version, which I am quite happy with TBH. Would it be possible to utilise another of the already activated led such as the windscreen washer level which I never need as I never let it run down anyway.

Could I remove the led for the windscreen wash and then run a couple of jumper wires to the coolant level led which exists on the circuit board?

Perhaps like the High line and the Digi speedo there is a key in the binary for the IPK itself...

Phil or Brian would be my first port of call...
