Washers and Wipers stuck on
My windscreen washers are stuck on, causing the wipers to come on to clear the screen. Any one else had this or any idea how I can sort it? I don't want the washer motor to burn out as the washer bottle is now empty.

Not sure, but I'd unplug the battery fir 1/2 hr, to see if it "resets" anything. Worth a try.

Thank you. Any other ideas in case that doesn't work?

either disconnect the the wiper motor and washer pump temporarily or pull the fuses for the same (if you can find the right ones). Check the washer relay isn't stuck closed, if not then check the washer switch isn't shorted. If neither are the case then it's a wiring problem. IIRC the switching for the washer is done on the earth line: that is to say that there is always 12v at the pump but the earth is only connected when demanded. That being the case any wiring fault will be a short to earth of the (earthing) wire to the washer pump.

Just to add that the signal from the washer stalk must also go through the BCU I think, so it may be problem there in which case a battery reset may help.

check the plenum drains for blockages

I am trying to source a new pump from the Birmingham area tomorrow. Can anyone help me as where to get one from, either new or second hand. |
Is it only whirring when you operate the washer stalk? Should be a common enough bmw item, but don't look for genuine New, it'll cost a kidney! Pattern parts should be available, try ecp website.
