Sony VPL-VW10HT widescreen projector

I have been offered about £600 for my projector in a trade in. Considering the retail price was £5800 a few years ago, take it from me I was shocked, as the picture is fantastic and genuine 16:9.

It doesn't have HDMI which I need so I am considering an upgrade.

If anyone is interested in buying the projector plus spare bulb (cost £400) for £600, then contact me.

Read a review here:http://www.homecinemachoice.com/revi...VPL-VW10HT.php

It is in immaculate condition, supports RGB, S-Video, composite etc and is perfect for watching movies, pc presentations or tele.

I have the manual, remote etc.

interesting..... that could supposedly do presentations whilst actually being used for playing films:D

whats HDMI out of interest?

Phil260 28th April 2008 07:45

I have only used it for watching films, but pc presentations would be easy to do and very high quality.

HDMI is the connection that is required for blu-ray.

PM me if interested.

No it isnt.

Before you sell it and buy something newer. HDMI is just a means of carrying audio and video over the same channel and even that is only version1.3
As long as the projector can show a resolution of 1920 x 1080 then you can watch blu ray (even if it can display 1280 x 720 you can watch blu ray and High Def content). VGA can support far higher resolutions than HDMI so dont throw anything out until you fully know what you have to get.

720p (digital ready and will show a max of 720 lines at the same time)
1080p (full HD and will show a max 1080 lines at the same time)
1080i (basically the same as 720p in that it shows 1080 lines but not at the same time).

Co-axial connectors will output these resolutions too.

MGOracle, my response was too brief and as you point out, somewhat incorrect.

What I meant was that when I replace my dvd player for a blu-ray next year, I want to transmit the picture to the projector via the HDMI output, as it is the best type of connection and does not involve any digital to analogue conversion.

I know that my current projector will display High Def/Blu-Ray etc, - and very well, too - but I do not want to buy both items in the same year, so I am preparing in advance.

Thanks for your comments though, much appreciated.

1080p - the 'p' = progressive scan.

Progressive scan produces better quality pics than the old interlaced scan system ('i') as used on 1080i and non-hi def television systems such as the current UK standard PAL 625.

Progressive scan sequence is: line 1, line 2, line 3, .... up to line 1080. One frame completed in one pass.

Interlaced scan sequence is: line 1, line 3, line 5, .... until field 1 complete, then back to top & start scan again .... line 2, line 4, line 6 .... until field 2 complete. Two passes (one per field) are needed to complete one frame, hence flicker and all sorts of other 'orrible gremlins are introduced.

The Sony VPL-VW10HT projector does display progressive scan which, as you rightly point out, is superior to interlaced.
It is currently installed in my house, should anyone wish to view.

It's a shame to sell it Phil - especially after you paid all that money in the first place .

My cinema is something of an obsession with me and I have always bought the best and looked after it fastidiously.
The 10 has been replaced now by the 100 which has a xenon lamp and an HDMI input. I have been offered one (lightly used) but the trade in was disappointing considering what he would sell it for.

I thought better to let someone have it for the "cut out the middle man" price. It is still installed in my house, should anyone wish to view, although I am aware that I live in the back of beyond!

It would be equally as good for Powerpoint presentations as watching dvds, although it is not as small as some of the very portable projectors.

Phil260 7th May 2008 12:51

Any takers?
It is a real bargain and would be excellent for powerpoint presentations as well as a home cinema.
