Front Disc Run-out Checking - Spacer Suggestions?
Hi!
I'm planning on changing the front disc and pads on my ZT190 this weekend as I need to cure some brake judder. I will be checking the hubs and discs for run out of course, but I've found in the past that the wheel bolts are too long to hold the discs true to the hub without a spacer. Does anybody have a suggestion for a handy bit of garage detritus that serves the purpose. I'm sure there must be something knocking around I can use, even if it's a left-field as a pair of bog roll tubes or some old spark plugs. |
Nuts the same size as the wheel bolts or nuts slightly larger than the wheel bolts or pieces of steel tubing cut to the desired length. I have some steel tubing that used to be the legs of a stacking chair that is probably about the right size. If you cut the same amount off the four legs of your kitchen chair your wife will never notice!

Get a couple of spares and cut them down. Otherwise get a handful of washers. You don’t need to overthink this, your only wanting to hold the disc in place :)

Whilst you have your clock gauge handy check that the hub itself is running true. Had one years ago that was bent which caused a bit of judder which was cured by new discs for a while but then returned.
