Damp patch in caravan - how to fix?
 

How do I fix a damp patch inside a caravan, there's a portion of interior wall that is suffering from damp and as a result has gone "soft" how do I fix it and what will it cost.

All depends if you have a leak, and where the damp patch is, and how far the damp has spread.

Seems to be confined to one spot around 3' x 12" I think the water has entered through the bottom of the window that the area is beneath.

You mean a leaky window or rail trim, or a window which has been left open and water to enter?

What part/area of the caravan are we talking about, front/back/corners etc, which window is it?

It's the front "nearside" interior where the seating is and just seems to be a single flat surface.

Depending what year model your caravan is, check the window rubber seal and joins, also the rivets. You may want to check the whole front window frame wall for any splits or cracks, also check the exterior front rail and make sure your front overhead cupboards are not damp.

Pull back your seating and check front N/S window corner and shelf, it may be something as simple as the rubber window seal allowing water ingress. Once you find the leak, either replace the rubber or try sealant. You can repair the small wall board area by cutting out and fixing in a new panel, as long as you take note of any cross-member struts. You could also use 'Seam Seal' and even Wood Hardener for the repair.

A caravan wall is made up like a sandwich, the aluminium skin, then polystyrene, and the 3mm plywood internal wall-board, its all quite simple really. I had to repair my soft floor, nothing to do with water ingress, just that the polystyrene breakdowns overtime and gives you a soft sinking floor. The repair is easy, just use a one-shot repair resin treatment, gives you a rock solid floor again, mine has been ok now for the past 3 years. :D

Sounds like I need to get in there and investigate further and wood hardener is definitely the way forwards!

A member close to me had a damp issue in his caravan, caused by a leak on the front join rail on the roof . Keith fixed it himself , why nor drop him a pm and ask for hos advice.
