Problem Fitting Erisin Radio
 

I finally got round to fitting my Erisin radio today, as it isn't raining and it's not too cold.

I connected the wires for the steering wheel controls, as well as the wire for the aeriel amplifier, plugged everything in to the radio and the ISO to BMW adapter and reconnected the battery. Turned on the ignition, pressed the on button and........nothing!

I checked for power at the plug on the back of the radio. The yellow wire has 12v, the red one does not. So, I checked for power at the car's ISO plug and I have 12v on both wires, leading me to suspect a problem with one of the adapters.

On closer inspection, it appears that one of the adapters is wired incorrectly. The question is, which one? The red wires do not line up when the two adapters are connected together.

Despite having a set of Durite pin-removal tools, neither of them seem to fit these pins, and I can't even see where the locking tangs are located.

If I can establish which one is wrong, I could hopefully get a replacement. The other alternative is to cut both red wires from their plugs and join them externally.

If anyone can identify which of them is wrong, I would be most grateful.

Right I've just been in the garage to look at the spare erisin loom i have and can confirm that the erisin plug is the same as yours, so i would be inclined to think it is the iso that is wrong :}
To confirm i would connect the plugs and then bridge the red wires and see if it powers up:}

I’ve done some googling and it looks like you are correct, the ISO adapter is wrong. NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-!

Got mine from a guy in Chesterfield, i can't remember the name of the company but found him on Ebay and just rocked up and bought the iso connector and fakra aerial adapter. :}

After a bit of perseverance, I managed to get the pin out and move it to the correct hole.

Now I just need to fix my steering wheel controls. They stopped working after I had the console out in order to dry the carpets. I thought it was probably the connection to the back of the radio, but that was OK when I took the old radio out. I'm not getting any response when trying to set up the SWC in the Erisin settings.

The two swc wires in the three coloured iso plug one goes to the swc erisin wire and the other goes to the black earth in the erisin loom either or as i believe, that's how i did mine and it all works fine.

I connected the two wires to the wires labelled 'SWC1' and 'SWC2', which is how I understood it.

I'm inclined to think that's not the issue, as the SWC had stopped working with the original radio, so I think I'll have to look elsewhere.

*THINK* you need to connect one of the Rover SWC wires to SWC1, and the other to ground, but don't take my word for anything... I gave up trying to get my Erisin to work.




My steering wheel control switches gradually began to fail years ago, only cured when I fitted a new set. They consist simply of a set of resistors (5 I think) of widely different values. When you press one of the switches, the stereo "sees" that resistance, and you tell it to associate it with whatever function you like.

When the switches start to wear out, the resistances become a bit vague, and the stereo may not react. Might be the case with yours - testing each switch position with a meter will tell you :D

I have the same thing with my SWC,, the volume will only work one way, which is to turn the volume down, to increase the volume I have to do it manually via the knob on the head set..

I experienced the same problem with my Erisin.
But you can adjust which button you want to use.
Hence I chose the right SWC button for the volume and the left one in the only working direction for a circular menu.
Happy with that. :}
