oil change - hot or not?
 

Just a quick one. I intend to do an oil change this weekend so should the oil be warmed up or not? Or is it one of these issues that spark long and heated debate and is down to personal preference?

Should always be drained with the oil hot as it is thinner then and drains out better.

Wot :iagree: But take care, as it can be hot, as in HOT

I have to agree with the HOT change, but can also see why you would want to do it cold, as quite often, i would do the oil change about an hour after the engine was run, so as to allow any surplus oil to return to the sump, I would then leave the oil to drip, for a good period of time to get all of it out,

Hot definately HOT!!!
 

Give it a good blast to stir things up and get it hot and then take the oil out as quickly as possible, keep yourself out the way and wear welding gloves.:lol:

GG - thanks for the reminder re the washer - is that essential?

On my way back though Leeds today I stopped at PARTCO and got myself Uniparts semi-synth 10/40 meeting the correct ACEA spec for the engine and filter for £14.50 incl vat :SHOCKED: Cheapest oil I've ever seen - hope it's upto the job.......?

Not absolutely essential but they do crush as they are tightened up. If you have a local Halfrauds or whatever, they are only pence to buy and it is recommended. Ask for Rover 75 part as they just don't seem to list ZT

Just one quick tip though, remove the undertray before you go and warm up the oil and use axle stands to support the car dont rely on a trolley jack..
