Paint drying time?
 

Hiya all just want too ask just too make sure I'm doing this right.

It regards too paint drying time, When I paint the first coat I normally give it 1 hour too to be touch dry and then I give it other coat once again.

and I keep doing that till its finished and leave it for 24 hours before putting anything else on top.

Am I doing this right?

I know with spraying the drying time can be different with the thinners and harden mixed but with something that's brushed on I can take longer.

I've bought some paint today and each coat you have too give it 16 hours before you can put other coat on. :eek:

I started panicking I thought or damn I've not been letting it fully harden long enough, but had no problems tho.

Hi, it depends what it is your painting and the type of paint? If it's base and clear on a car then the base will take less than 20 minutes temp depending..you can put wet on wet even. If it's gloss paint on wood or even emulsion overcoat too quick and the bottom coat can dry towards the top coat losing adhesion..what is it you'r painting mate?:} not that freaking tank with camouflage..

Under the chassis again, I've been using gravitex stone chip protector once that's all done I can finally be glad when this is over. :D

Be using Hammerite arage door paint to go on top of the stone chip paint which is over paintable. :D

On the back of the tin it says I've got too wait 16 hours before applying other coat in the past I just waited 30 mins or longer till its touch dry and then give it a coat.

what I don't want happening is the paint too crack as this could lead too moisture and road debris gathering in that area and behold a opening for rust to form. :duh:

It really depends on how big your arage is, arage paint is very unusual in that it never actually dries, if it did you would not be able to walk as the paint would stiffen and cause your arage cheeks to rub together.

This will cause cracking, chaffing and in extreme cases (like running for a bus or chasing a fiver down the street on a windy day), the arage can actually catch fire due to friction.


My advise it to protect your arage with a fine coat of beeswax and buff to a shine with a terry nappy liner.


You can see here a pair of arages in the special holders designed for the purpose of painting. These have just the red oxide undercoat...

So remember, keep your arage aired and dry before buffing, otherwise chaffing can ruin your day....

Thanks Pete for your input, I guess I chose the wrong too paint under the chassis by the sounds of it. :duh:

Wait a minute if the paint doesn't fully dry that means it won't crack as easily in terms of stone chips.
I think this could actually.

I just need too prep the surface like anything.

yes, you can prep the surface using a spineless cactus ( or a bit of Ken Livingstone as we know it round here) dipped in liquid unobtainuim.

this needs to be done on shrove Tuesday otherwise the cheese will never pass through the injectors.
