Do ISP's have any legal responsibility?
Do ISP's have any legal responsibility to block spam email accounts.
Getting lots of emails that at first look to be coming from my wife but they are not. We have changed her password but that has not stopped them so it s not that her account has been hacked. macafee2 |
An ISP wouldn't be responsible for spam emails.

No they don't.
That would be like royal mail deciding (without you asking them) to filter your snail mail of all the NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-. (not a bad idea actually!). Some, in role of email provider (you don't have to use email provision from your ISP), have spam filters that you can configure - but importantly it's you that sets the filter with whatever controls your emaili provider makes available. The second issue is that you say the email appears to come from your wife's account. Well that, I'm afraid, is trivial. The 'from' address on an email is rarely validated by email servers and can be set to anything the sender wants to set it as, regardless of the account from which it came. The only way to find the origin of an email is from the email headers - however that can be made more difficult by the sender adding false 'Received' headers before they send it. |
I did some reading up on the problem and have set rules to capture a lot of these emails.
