***MEET NOW POSTPONED***

Announcing The 29th Owners Club National Meet

on Sunday 19th April

The Club's 29th National Meet will be held on
Sunday 19th April 2020 (The day after The Pride Of Longbridge)
at
Wythall Transport Museum
Chapel Lane
Wythall
Worcestershire
B47 6JX

From 11:00am
Entry price £7.00 per person
payable on the day

The museum is home to over 90 buses.
Midland Red, WMPTE blue and cream and the corporation fleets
from Birmingham, Walsall, West Bromwich and Wolverhampton
are all represented, plus local independent operators.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...9d30ca8d_c.jpg

The transport museum is also home to the largest collection of battery electric road vehicles,
including over 30 electric milk floats and bread vans from operators such as
the Co-op, Midland Counties and Birmingham and Handsworth Dairies

HALL 1 - situated in front of the admission kiosk as you enter,
shows how public transport enabled people to get out and about,
plus plenty of insights into the operating and manufacturing sides of the industry.
The Art Depot area contains lots of examples of bus company art and photography.

HALL 2 - situated to the rear of the cafe, contains the Battery Electric vehicles.
Don't miss these gems at the back of the site, including the largest collection
of restored battery electric vehicles in the world, and probably
the largest Birmingham coat-of-arms in existence,
set in stone outside the main entrance.

HALL 3 - opposite the side of the Power Hall is the museum's display yard
and is home to the running fleet. This is where volunteers restore and
maintain Wythall's collection ranging from immaculate examples
to those which are almost total wrecks.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...e6eaa75c52.jpg

We will be presenting the 2020 Windrush Award for the best car in show
as voted for by those attending, as well as selling items from the club shop such as mugs,
grille badges, key rings, pens, stickers and decals.

Wythall Transport Museum is just 6 miles from Cofton Park in Birmingham,
the location of the The Pride Of Longbridge the day before,
So why not make a weekend of it and attend both events?

This year is already proving disappointing with clashing dates, if you'll excuse the expression.

Two big airshow forums have chosen the same date at the beginning of April, and lo and behold, the 19th April, I'm already booked for a roller coaster weekend up north, yet Wythall, is only two miles from where my son lives, doh!

RPWC 13th February 2020 17:28

Exactly my kind of museum, but alas too far away and can’t stay overnight as the car is needed on the Monday morning. Damn!

Add me to the list.
We'll be at Silverstone for British Superbikes until the 14th with the caravan so with the meet only an hour away from the circuit and a touring park next door to the venue we may as well stay in the area and take in the meet.. It will give me the chance to vote for Redfive as car of the meet..;);)..

I’ll be running up and back on the Sunday, round trip of 420 miles for me. Should do it on one tank full in Banana.

Dear Rover 75 and MG ZT friends,

We will come over from the continent to visit the POL and your National Meet the day after on April 19, 2020.

We are looking forward to it; we will probably come with the Rover 75 Tourer, but it is also possible that we will attend with the Rover 220 Coupé from 1994.

Hope to meet you then.

Best regards,

Pim and Thomas

Myself and Deanna will definitely be attending with Redfive now. We've just booked from Friday to Sunday at Premier Inn Bromsgrove Central for POL and the national meet :) Good hotel that one, stayed there last time and usually get a lot of MG and Rover owners staying over for the weekend.

Pete 15th March 2020 14:10

With the increase in cases of Coronavirus in the UK I am letting you know the current situation in regards to the forthcoming National Meet in April at the Wythall Transport Museum.

As of 15th March the National Meet will be going ahead as planned. But we cannot say at this moment the decision is final. Updates will appear in this thread.

We would be desperately disappointed to have to postpone the event, and I know you would be too. But we must act responsibly in the face of a virus which is spreading quickly and advice on avoiding catching it which is changing almost daily. A large number of our members who come to the meets are older, and they are at increased risk of contracting the virus.

If the infection rate continues to rise quickly and the meet is seen as a risk to anyone at the venue - including the volunteers at the museum who give their time freely - and Government advice changes to halt mass gatherings then we will move the National Meet to later in the year.

If you are booking accommodation then we suggest you do so only if you have the option to cancel.

We are monitoring advice from the Government along with the venue and will be regularly reviewing the staging of the National Meet. We do hope to see you there but we also hope you understand if we take, or are told to take, the decision to postpone to a later date. In the meantime, if you have any questions then feel free to PM me.

Stay safe,

Pete

Teflon 15th March 2020 15:30

Many thanks for the update. Hopefully it will still go ahead, but it's perfectly understandable if it has to be postponed.

Cliff

Rev Jules 15th March 2020 15:47

It would be a great shame if it were to be cancelled but common sense should prevail, we have a holiday booked in May to go too Wales, I have a fishing holiday booked also in May, then there is Clandon.
My self and Dawn will not be taking any chances in catching this Virus, the government is suggesting us oldies should self isolate, but we shall see how it pans out.

Rev.

FLYING BANANA 15th March 2020 16:29

Health and family always come first. National meets can be arranged another time.

Reebs 16th March 2020 23:03

Important Update - National Postponed

Don’t worry bigd, as it’s with a heavy heart that we must announce the postponement of our next National meet in April. This decision was not taken lightly but in view of the government’s guidelines on social distancing announced today and with the very real concern that many of our members fall into the over 70 category, the well being and safety of our members must take precedence over anything else.

We hope to hold a National at this venue at some point in the future but at this stage we cannot even begin to start suggesting dates.

We are deeply sorry for any disappointment or inconvenience to travel plans that may have been made, but we will resume Club Nationals as soon as it is safe to do so.

Keep safe everyone. :grouphug:

starbug2 19th March 2020 16:38

Postponed so i hope we can have it going.

starbug2 29th July 2021 20:53

things have been far from normal in resent times . i hope soon we can start to live a more normal way ... some car stuff has started so i hope the 75/ZT lot can start to have meets, national meets etc very soon . my 75 is still very much around

RegalRover 26th September 2021 20:29

Any more news on when it is taking place?

Reebs 26th September 2021 21:26

We put this on hold and aren’t planning on resuming Club National Meets until the new year. If there is an appetite from the membership to have a large National meet again around the time of the Pride of Longbridge in 2022 (assuming that too is resuming next year) then I will recontact The Wythall Transport Museum and check availability.

The bottom line is, we only want to mount a National if plenty of members feel comfortable in attending post COVID. An idea of numbers would be a help. :}

coolguy 27th September 2021 09:31

I think that there would be quite an appetite - I have been to a number of outdoor events over the past 8 weekends with no problems, so long as folk are sensible. Given that I used to attend classic car shows and autojumbles more than 30 weekends a year pre Covid, I would certainly be up for it. My cars need their regular exercise.

Saga Lout 15th January 2022 09:18

A thread wake up.

Is there any news on a national for 2022 as yet, the virus is getting less of a worry and we should be able to think about a resumption of normality.

Simondi 16th January 2022 07:38

I would have thought that after the club had a stand at the Classic Car Show, an indoor event there should be no problem with a resumption of the club national meets which are normally held outdoors.

Reebs 22nd February 2022 11:37

Sadly Not the day after POL I'm Afraid

Unfortunately none of the green team are able to make this date and without any club staff, we can't hold the National the day after POL. I know this isn't ideal for those wanting to make a weekend of it, but it's unavoidable I'm afraid.

We will make a concerted effort to pin down a date for a Spring national and let you know when we have done so.

Just to mark your cards the postponed 2nd Roverfest inter-Rover club grand event is still being planned across 'The Joint Rover Clubs' group of which we are member to take place over the weekend of 5th - 7th August at Sywell Aerodrome in Northamptonshire with our Club National taking place on the Sunday.

Nice and local to me (Roverfest that is) - great venue and thoroughly enjoyed the last one.

How about getting more 'Green team' on board then Paul, so that we can have meets more often?

The meets I have arranged in the past at East kirkby have been some of the best attended meets ever was hoping to do another this year why do we need a green team member? When a meet is at east kirkby we are covered on there insurance as I sort that with them

Cannot remember the last "official" meet I was able to attend generally due my own health conditions and I know that covid has has a massive impact but come on guys, lets get something organised on a national basis

Maybe there should be more of the "green team" and it would help if they were spread round the country so able to attend/officiate without having to travel great distances.

I agree, East Kirkby is an ideal venue, lots and lots of parking, everytime I've been there it's been well organised (by Lincsdave) and run with all the facilities you expect and more, where else are you going to see a taxying Lancaster bomber.
How about making Dave a green member then the problem is solved!

I don't really know the guy. met him once, maybe twice I think, but seems a dedicated enthusiast and the one time I made the East Kirkby meet it was well organised with great facilities and the Lancaster up and down the runway was a sight to behold, all organised by him . Gets my vote :)

With the support encouragement and backing of the club plus the willingness and expertise of Dave lincs organisation why can't east Kirkby be made into a annual club meet this meet is always well attended by club members and is the perfect location with plenty of amenities close by for people who have travelled from away Dave has organised this meet for a number of years now and I'm sure if Dave had more support from the green team this is well achievable to be added to the club calendar for years to come

The idea and appeal for national club meets is that they move around in location across the country and date at which they occur, to maximise the opportunity for as many members as possible to attend at some point if they wish. :sunny:

I understand the concept of a national meet my suggestion never mentioned East Kirkby as a national meet but as a annual meet with the backing and support from the club maybe because it's in the national meet thread it was assumed I meant as a national 🙂meets are a big part of this club the socializing the banter friendship and enthusiasm to keep these cars on the road is second to none it would be great to know that the club supported some of these meets and could be in the club calendar yearly it would also give people plenty of time to plan if they want to attend

The East Kirkby annual meet has been organised
By Dave for some years now and he does it so well, this meet is effectively being offered to the OC on a silver plate, to use an equestrian quote "you don't look a gift horse in the mouth"

The club is folked if those who run it stop listening to those to that pay the subscriptions to fund it. I am not a subscriber for these exact reasons.

Very well put Richard as we all know East Kirkby is a very well attended meet that always attracts a very good show of cars and should be an annual meet and i feel it should be supported by the club as it seems to me the green team don't seem to do much in the way of events any more or even give any thanks to me for sorting the East kirkby meet

Surely if more mets are arranged and East Kirkby is an annual meet it can only do good for the club? It seems quite simple to me that if there is no support from the Green team the club will slowly drift away

East Kirkby

This is a great event and we should all be grateful to Dave for organising it. Where else can you see 75s, MGs and a Lancaster bomber. And have ice cream for breakfast which you have to do according to my granddaughter!
Let's make this an annual event and an official national meet.

FLYING BANANA 24th February 2022 11:54

I’m the only member of the Green Team that is retired. The rest all have full time jobs. I know this is no excuse. But I have offered to help with the National as and when it happens.

Roverfest is on for August.

As it has been said before you don’t need to be a member of the green team or the area Regional Secretary to put a meet together. A huge thank you to Dave for putting the East Kirby meets together. I have been to a few over the years, and I hope to be able attend the next one with the Yellow One.

As you may remember that Ian G. Offered his services to check out venues for the National meets, and he did find some cracking places. But Ian stepped down and it was back to Paul to do it. Maybe we need someone else to check out venues for the club. To liaise with the venue and the club.
I’ll have a word with upstairs to see if it might be a good idea.

Our new Regional Secretary, Ratty, was hoping to get meets up and running this year in the Southwest but following on from his heart attack at Xmas he has had to take it easy. So I’m helping out as best I can.

In a word Roy no but some of my best meets have been organised by myself or with the help of a couple of other members with no input from the OC green team..A bit like Daves East Kirkby meets.

Any member of the OC can organize a meet, but if not organised by the OC then would not as I understand it be covered by the OC's Public Liability Insurance, so would in effect not be classed as an official OC authorized event.

I agree wholeheartedly the East Kirkby Event is a fantastic show & one that really merits becoming an annual event in it's own right, we attended last years event for the first time & can thoroughly recommend this show to all, a really fantastic day out, culminating for us in what you see in my Sig Pic below, very kindly arranged by Dave Lincs for us through The Lincolnshire Aviation Club, many thanks Dave much appreciated.

Regarding annual events, many of you may know, we have held The Anglo-Scottish Meet at Gretna Annually in it's own right run by various RS's & Members of the OC since 2010, all have been exceptionally well attended over the years, before being unfortunately curtailed because of the pandemic.

The last event we held there was in 2019 incidentally this was arranged to be a club National event held through the OC, I may be mistaken was this the last National meet held by the OC before the pandemic curtailed everything, incidentally to all that may be interested, we are hoping the event may be resurrected again this year fingers crossed.

Regards..... John.

No unless you want or need PLI, a banner, a club shop or a raffle just carry on with the meet as it is now.. If it ain't broke it don't need fixing :D:D

trikey 24th February 2022 18:56

I think a lot of members are frustrated at the lack of National meets happening, yes I know we had a pandemic, but other car clubs managed to have some meets towards the end of last year.

We should, as a club be making more of an effort to have some National meets throughout the year not leaving it until late summer.

If it carries on as it is, members will just stop bothering with the OC and drift off to Facebook etc, let’s just see how many cars turn up at POL from the Facebook groups compared to our club, this will be a good indicator as to the state of things!

suzublu 24th February 2022 21:45

The members make the club, not the other way round, It's always been that way. Without owners turning up to meets whether official or otherwise, there'd be no point:shrug::shrug: Anyway, not getting into this..........again:D

Bazzateer 24th February 2022 22:05

Sadly, Facebook has killed off a number of forums and clubs.
Anyone in the Imp Club can organise a meet, as long as they inform the events organiser they can be covered by the Club's PLI. Maybe, this club can look into doing the same?

dave lincs 25th February 2022 07:58

How many of us are still going to longbridge on the 23rd I wonder? The green team have let the club down on this one which is a shame as there will not be a club stand as planned, I feel as a club if we are going to survive is to have more club meetings at either regular venues or other places arranged by club members and get this green team lack of support sorted out while we still have a club

Personally I think the thing that is going to kill this forum is not Facebook ( I'm a member of a few Facebook groups) but inaction, why be a member if nothing much happens?
I know the individual members of the green team cannont be on 24 hours a day so why not have a larger green team ?

Dave

Prior to reading these more recent posts I have just had a message off another member saying he was sad to see me selling my 75. He asked my reason why? My answer was that there are barely any meetings anymore, nothing happening local at all so there is no point keeping it. I have my MG tf which we are out with local clubs as well as the bigger ones pretty much every other weekend, the social side of ownership of these vehicles is the main thing in my opinion and it just isn't happening within the 75 club with the odd exception. I understand the pandemic has caused difficulties but something needs to start happening soon before all the great members that make up this club disappear.

Steve.

starbug2 25th February 2022 09:53

coolguy 25th February 2022 12:36

Frustrated to see that there is not going to be a Club stand at POL, but at least I can now bring whichever of my Rovers I choose on the day. To tack our "National" onto Roverfest which has already been delayed for 2 years is sensible this year, but I would hope a little more effort could be put in going forward.

That’s a good point, new members will join up, but how many will stick around if the social side of things isn’t very active?

Since I took over the shop, 3/12/19, we have had 98 new members sign up.

So far this year I have attended 5 meets. Got another tomorrow, for all cars not only MG & Rovers.
Next week I’m off to the gin distillery, it was supposed to be a joint meet between us and the Cornish MGOC. But I couldn’t get anyone interested in doing the tour. And the CMGOC have now cancelled. So just me going.

trikey 26th February 2022 17:36

We need to take a leaf out of the MGOC, lots of local meets, a great national meet set up and a superb spares set up.

It will be a great shame and a loss to the club if the 'green team' don't take stock of the bad feeling and take up some of the suggestions being put forward on this thread. It is starting to feel more like a dictatorship than a friendly and welcoming club....anyone fancy invading the Ukraine?

There will be a club stand at POL, I've started a thread and have been in contact with the POL organising committee.

Currently I believe that none of the green team are able to attend which is a shame

I will also be organising the Gretna meet in July/August.

It's a shame there isn't going to be a national meet but I agree awe need to have more. Anyone can organise a meet and if course you can invite who you like:D personally I love it like at East Kirby where there is a massive variety of cars to see

FLYING BANANA 28th February 2022 07:31

I will now be attending POL.

I’m doing my best to support the club and those that organise local meets and get together’s, but it’s not easy. As most of you know that once upon a time I would travel miles to attend a meet, I would travel up to Newcastle to the metro centre meets and home again in one day.

Bob, I don't think anyone doubts your dedication to the club you have been an avid supporter of the club, and Flying Banana is recognised wherever she goes,
it just seems there is a lack of interest from the Green Team, I know they have their own lives to meet and we are a growing club and we need to show our new members we are interested in them. Bob it would be a great shame if you were the only one to show up and represent us.

No, you are definitely correct, with Sunday being the "National" day. I shall attend anyway - only 10 miles away, and the airfield is beautifully maintained with a free Museum. According to their website, 18 75s/ZTs already booked in, but they may be carried over from 2020 and 2021 which were postponed.

I get we can organise our own meets Simon, but having meets without a couple of nationals is like running the FA Cup without having the final!

Very true:}

For anyone interested in attending Roverfest, I have just been informed that the location has now changed. The following was sent to me by the event organisers:

"The Roverfest Committee, has been informed by Sywell that they are now unable to meet our previously agreed expectations and have cancelled our booking. The Roverfest committee has been able to relocate the event and have been lucky in finding, at short notice, a suitable
venue, 15 miles from Sywell.

Roverfest 2022 will now take place at Church Farm, in the village of Weston Underwood, Buckinghamshire MK46 5JS for the whole weekend of the 5th to 7th August 2022. Plans are in progress to provide onsite catering to satisfy existing rally bookings. The alternative venue is larger than that offered at Sywell and can accommodate limited camping and caravanning.

Rally attendees, who are currently booked at the Aviator Hotel may receive a message cancelling their booking and incorrectly stating the
event has been cancelled."
