Agreed Value Car Insurance

The saloons car insurance is due very shortly, have done the usual comparison sites, but the value of the car on these sites is very low, one as bad as £300 ! This is crazy the excess being higher than the value !

So, my question is, has anyone managed to insure their Rover 75 as a classic car, with an agreed value, and if so how did you come to the agreed value, and what company did you use ?

I know someone with a 1998 S reg Rover 75, who has an agreed valuation with Adrian Flux for £3000. To get this figure in writing, he has a mileage restriction of 5,000 miles per year. Proof of mileage is required every year with a copy of the MOT, modifications declared and 7 photos of the car inside and out, including one showing the engine bay on display.

My experience with trying to get a 75 on a classic policy, including Adrian Flux who I have a policy with on my Triumph, was its a no under 20 years old. They and all I tried would not cover it as a classic, but would insure it at a very great expense under a standard policy. They all would however cover a ZT or ZT-T under a classic policy. Seems crazy but there it is.

The 1998 example will be ok because its over 20 years old.

I have exactly the same for my cars on classic with agreed value for autoline in Northern Ireland. I've a few not on agreed on classic, and also one on the policy as "laid up but agreed value" as I was able to produce a huge amount of receipts for parts for it before I parked it up

Thanks for the replies, it seems like the 20 year rule is going to me a bit of a problem. Will have a go at getting a few quotes, see what happens and report back ! Surely someone must class them as a classic !

I took out a Adrian Flux, agreed value policy over 2 years ago.
My car is 2000 built but not registered until the 1st March 2001.

I have other cars on "normal" policies.
It is worth bearing in mind that these classic policies do not give, or accrue no-claims discount.

I contacted Peter Best for classic insurance when i was considering a 2nd purchase. Got a quote for an agreed valuation with 6k miles. I had to supply a range of pics showing both inside and out but the broker did say that they would only consider Cowleys for classic cover currently. That was over a year ago now tho and i would guess they would cover non Cowleys as they came of age.

Seems to be different ages for different makes when they reach classic status. I was able to put my Saab 93 on a classic limited mileage policy when it was 10 years old.

Was a while ago now, it’s been on SORN for the last 3 years, must try to get it back on the road in 2020.

Have insured previously with Peter best on a classic limited mileage policy and they also do agreed value, currently with classic line who do the same policies.
