Leaking Tourer rear fixed windows ?
Ok I know there are plenty of threads on our leaking cars and a lot of the fixes are straightforward, however I am currently looking at a tourer with the innards stripped out of the back and water is getting in both sides and gathers around the bottom seal of the rear fixed window.
What is strange is that no matter how much water I spray on the outside of those windows there is no leak but as soon as the hose is turned towards the top of the closed tailgate around where the hinge is located water is somehow getting in and gathers on the inside of the fixed rear windows before dripping onto the floor I know there is some original MG Rover sealant in the weld in the area at the top when the tailgate is open and it looks cracked over time so I have put some sealant in there but it still leaks Presumably a few of you have been here before and will be able to tell me how you cured it ? |
I will watch for replies as one ay lead to solving mine

Rob,
Is it the same kind of leak Elroy has/had got on his red tourer he nicknamed "Twiggy" bought from Trikey (use to belong to Dave Linda). Not sure if he's cured it yet but it might help. Sorry don't know how to post links to threads! Martyn. |
Hi Rob if the D trim panel's are out remove the rear lights and lower the rear headlining see if you can see water marks and put some newspapers in ser if you can identify wet spots

Its not coming through the lights and I know exactly where the water is pooling inside the car as used dry paper towel to isolate it, I will read the links that have been posted so thanks to those of you who have provided them

Had the same problem two years ago and as a temporary fix just stuck some two inch wide black plastic parcel tape all along inside the top by the hinges. You only see it when you lift the tailgate. It's worked so I've left it there. Cost = nix.

My tourer had the same problem . As miss moppet says water appears to get in the roof panels above where the hinges go into the body . I removed the moulding, put caravan seam sealer in but don’t seem to think have cured the leak quite 100 % but spare well dry!
No doubt it will be a discussion point with Elroy next time I see him . Ironically when Dave Linc’s owned the car ,when I discussed it with him he said he had never had a problem , Probably just thought he was filling the car with damp logs ! :D:D |
