3 Days of Rain = Problems Galore
 

As the title suggests we've had 3 days of rain in Exeter and I've just gone to change my air filter to find a number of other issues.

First of all I had to turn the car around as it was facing down hill and the bonnet wouldn't stay up. This is the first time this has happened.

On starting the car I now a have an ABS fault. I've disconnected the battery at the moment in the hope this might clear.

I checked the plenums (I'd already done this 2 months ago, but my parking space is under a tree). There was no water at the bottom of the plenum, but the Cabin filter was soaking wet from top to bottom. I don't understand how. I've put some fish tank filter foam at the sides of the plenum to stop leaves going down there now.

Last week I changed the rear light gaskets as I had a wet boot, however today I found the sides (behind the lights) were wet again. It felt like water is getting in via the bolts that hold the boot lid in place. They were really tight and I could hardly tighten them any more, so not sure if the leak will stop or not now.

Any advice on any of these will be greatly appreciated. I have a 2 day drive to France starting tomorrow.

The boot rubber can let water in along with the side trims. The rear window seal is also know to leak.

You may well have checked the plenums 2 months ago but unless you have cut off the first 15mm on the drain tubes under the car it still stands a chance of getting flooded, this happens because the two little flaps stick together with wet and dirt creating a mud plug thus stopping the water from draining away, add that to cold snaps which can freeze any water trapped in the tube solid then you have trouble.

Do you have the spyhole mod on your car? it sound like the ECU may have gone for a swim or at least got soaked.

Thanks for the link Arctic. I was looking for that 2 months ago, but could only find one with all the pics removed. My ECU is not where it is in your pics. I'm not actually sure where it is to be honest. I have a 2.5 Petrol. I noticed the first time I looked in the plenum as my last two were diesels and I remembered what a pain in the NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- it was, but it's so easy on this one.

What's to outcome if my ECU as got wet?

Hi Flying Banana. It's definitely not the side trims. I ran my fingers up along the boot bolts and they are wet inside the boots. I pulled the lining away and checked the boot trim bits and they seemed fine.

The ECU will be in the same place, just not in a big black box as on the diesel, if the ECU gets wet it can cause all sorts of trouble, and if the pollen filter is wet from top to bottom as you say then water and got high or been splashed up high enough to maybe get it wet but usually the petrol ECU is sealed so maybe not got wet.

Cut these off under the car if you can

I think the water must have got high enough to reach the bottom of the filter, and it has then sucked water up as there was no water at the bottom when I looked. That or it's leaking from above somewhere.

Think I'm going to invest in a car cover :laugh:

What size hole is the spy hole? Please
