Air Con specialist in or near Sheffield
Good morning All,
As the title says does anyone know of or has used a proper a/c engineer in or near to Sheffield? My car has a very small leak which is proving difficult to trace. Thanks Sean |
Sean,
A quick Google brought up this mobile specialist. In my experience, this is the kind of business to look for. Garages who advertise air con re-charging can be less than thorough and the fast-fit chains are definitely to be avoided. If you have dye in the system, a mobile specialist will spend time to find it using detection equipment. They'll probably start at the condenser. Good luck. Simon |
Thanks Simon,
I did try google and looked at this company but as they say that they cover the south of the city only didn't pursue further (i'm located north) .There don't seem to be many dedicated specialists in this area. I have a very good garage that look after the car (ex rover tech.) but they are not solely an a/c specialist. When the system was checked yesterday the vacuum test failed and the re-gas was stopped. A quick inspection of the pipework in the engine bay etc for dye revealed nothing, he did mention possible problems with the evaporator which I have never heard of in almost 20 years of ownership but I suppose its a possibility. This fills me with dread as its not only likely to be expensive but requires the dash to be dismantled. Once again thanks Sean |

Why not give the company I found for you a ring? Ask them what leak detection equipment and procedure they would use as your car has just failed to hold a vacuum (hint: fill with nitrogen and use soap solution on common sources of leakage). Simon |
A/C update
Here is an update on the situation with my air conditioning issue. As previously described the a/c failed to hold a vacuum and it was initially suspected that the evaporator was at fault by the garage that did my MOT.
After speaking with John Carr (CarrCool ) it was decided that the car would need a workshop appointment to assess the problem correctly. I left the car and commenced the 35 mile journey home by bike ( dedication you see:D) When the system was inspected John found that the condenser was like a swiss cheese and tracer dye could be seen without any UV necessary:eek: he then described repair and likely cost but of course I decided to go ahead. John was very complimentary about the condition of my car even though many of the cars on the forecourt were Porsche or Range Rover which reassured me that he was the right man for the job he even provided pics before and after. Picked it up earlier all done and with working a/c:} Cannot recommend this garage highly enough they are Woodleigh motor sales ltd, Grassmoor, Chesterfield 01246 850686 |
A lot of the recharge cans like STP have sealants in them too and they also sell a super seal to run through as well. That’s what I bought at £50, fixed mine and I got £10 for returning the bottle.

Hi Sean,
Thanks for posting the successful resolution of your air conditioning problem. I am delighted that you decided to try my recommendation and that it proved to be the right one. There's a moral here and it is that, when it comes to air conditioning, there is a difference between this: Quote:

Wow Simon, that's almost as if you flew to Sheffield wearing your cape and tights, and after pointing a finger that emits crackling energy, repaired the car personally
Of course others have had positive experiences with so called non specialist outfits, something you seem to ignore ;) Anyway, nice to hear the OP found a resolution to his problem, by using the recommended outfit, and as ever, sometimes independent specialists are more experienced in repair than others, law of averages and all that :getmecoat: Brian :D |
The quick seal method isn't one which I would wish to employ and also would definitely not have resolved my problem, but its worth a go for some :)

I have also had re-gassing performed at kwik-fit et-al and local garages. The trouble with this is that the machine is connected and the operator leaves to do something else.If it works...great ,if not generally they are not interested in repairing.
I have had this done on and off for a few years and every summer needed a re-gas because the underlying cause wasn't rectified. The money I've paid out for this would have covered the cost of the recent repairs. |
