throttle pedal problem
 

hi all. Looking help/advice my car is a 75 diesel. pedal box removed for access to remove and replace not working heater motor.all done. throttle pedal not sensing the engine, no rev up. the garage doing the job computer does not show faults. talking of outside computer help. all help and advice thanked for in advance. peter

Listen to Phil-T4 (post 3), he knows his onions (and Rover/MG 75/ZT) The garage has either damaged the throttle during the job or failed to reconnect it properly.

Your problem is worn brushes/tracks within the box at the spindle end of the throttle arm. There are 4 sets of three tangs which scroll across their respective concentric curved contact tracks from which the signal is generated to give a variable throttle signal, from idling to full throttle.

I have two photos of the brushes and the tracks in Photobucket, but am unable to upload them on to show them here.

I had your trouble and ended up having to buy a complete throttle and brake pedal unit from an X-Part agency near where I live. It cost me over £100. MarinaBrian said at the time that I could have bought the pedal alone, but I was unable to, even after arguing at the agency that I did not need the brake pedal, only the throttle.

Your best bet is to go to your local scrap yard and get a throttle arm. It may be worn but, should still be usable and not completely worn out as mine was

Done it, this is the base of the throttle showing, in my case, the worn tracks, in earlier better times, that the brushes stroke along.

And here is a picture of the contact brushes. The tangs are are bit blurry. It was hard holding the camera still hard but they are reasonably visible. Sorry for the double entry. There must be an easier way of adding more than one photo to an entry. I finally copied each photo's IMG number, but could only do one at a time.
