fuel tank fault
 

Hi Guys im after a bit of help. my fuel gauge is not reading. I have almost a full tank of fuel but the gauge is on the bottom and the light is on. the gargae changed the pump and still nothing. They lifted the float and it doesnt do anything even tho there is power at the pump. the car drives and runs ok. any help would be great.

Is there a way to check the fule gauge from the trip meter

The float mechanism can be a fragile thing if not handled correctly, I suspect it has died when the garage were removing / replacing it.

I've had the same problem for about 6 months on my 2.5 Connie, not much help to you I'm afraid, I took the rear seat squab out and physically moved the float and the gauge didn't move! So now I just start to look at filling up around 300miles and brim it each time.:shrug:

Somtimes the float arm can get caught on wiring or just be stuck against a pipe.
Fiddly things to put back right.
id have another look, especially if somone has been mucking about with the pump.

The float arm position is determined by the position of the pump module in the tank port before the locking ring is fastened down. It has to be exactly right or the float may collide with various internal gubbins. The correct orientation is when the 'tongue' on the module top mates with the recesss in the port ring. I suspect it's possible to install it without them lining up.


You cam also test the float rheostat when it's raised up by putting an ohm meter to the appropriate pins on the pump's electrical connector shown below.
