Hello and help!
Hi everybody, Newbie here.
I've recently purchased a '03 75 (1.8 petrol) which I'm really pleased with as it has negated the need for a mid-life crisis, I've just accepted that I'm getting old. Anyway, on a short trip to a country pub for lunch the car stopped dead 100 yards down the road on the way home so I immediately joined the AA and they removed the rear seats to check the fuel pumps, one of which had blown its' lid which was promptly re fixed and a screw put in it to prevent a recurrence. This happened with a full tank of fuel. The car has driven fine since and has covered 400 miles on a single tank of fuel. I've filled up today and on returning to my car saw fuel leaking from under the tank so the car was pushed to the far end of the forecourt where it was then noticed that the leak had stopped. I then drove off to go to the shops, I parked in the shoppers car park (on a hill) and noticed fuel once again exiting my vehicle without going through the usual channels. Is there a problem with the fuel system when they are full? I didn't try to 'brim' the tank I let the pump decide when to stop delivering. Thanks, Sharky. |
Hi there and welcome to the club.
I am sure a tech bod will be along soon, however as a quick suggestion, do a search for FOC (fabled orange clip) as there seems to a common problem with the fueling system in the petrol cars. HTH Derek |

The AA did exactly this when they fixed my loose fuel filter and had to come out again. I'm sure as it's their fault they'll stretch a point and come to your house if you explain the situation.
My breakdown occurred at home so I had to join the 'Home Breakdown' service over the phone. I only had to pay a reduced fee for the remaining months until my renewal date. This was all before I joined the club and learnt a few things. John Wright |

The AA patrolman stated that the seal will need to be replaced so it looks like I'll have to buy the kit which is not the end of the world. I'm not going to do the work myself as I barely own a spanner and have nowhere sensible to do the work so I'll take it to a mechanic nearby. My car has only just hit 30k, are there any other bits of maintenance that should be done whilst it is in? The 2 previous owners have had the vehicle serviced approximately every 6k and the oil service is due in about 7k (according to the dash).

I've managed to put a 'light' scrape down the nearside (road side foliage!), is T-cut still the way to go or are there better products now available?
