Brake pipe clips
 

While under the car yesterday, slathering it with Dynax UB, I noticed the 2 clips holding the brake pipes at the rear, before they split to go to the rear wheels, were hanging loose, the, whatever it is, that holds the clip to the underside wasn't. Can someone tell me what holds them up, & can I drill & fit a self tapper? Many thanks:bowdown:

The best way to tackle this would be to fit stainless "P" clips.
This is acceptable for MOT and Kit Cars to use them for securing rigid brake pipes.
A 1 repair fix for life of the car.

Just to note, many cars are using stainless rigid brake pipework, I suspect that the design of the routing and exposure of these pipes on the moder vehicle will necessitate the use of such materials, however the are secured using plastic clips which with similar exposure to heat, wet cold and general road ingress will degrade the clip's strength over time and let go, but the progress is good using stainless.

So today I went under again to have a closer look. Seems like the original plastic clips are fitted to the underside by a sort of serrated pin onto which the clips are pushed, a bit like a rawl plug. However, the pins on mine are gone, corroded away so nothing for the clips to push on to.
My solution, drill a hole in the clip to allow a self tapper to go straight through, drill the underside, then screw the clip back on. Did it with the 2 rearmost ones and, touch wood, should last a bit longer:cool:

Great idea with short screws.
