Steering wheel control wires?
I'm connecting up my new android stereo/sat.nav unit, and wondering which of the many wires I have 'spare' coming out of the car are for the steering wheel controls? I have two wires from the unit to connect up - can anyone tell me from the photo which, if any, of these wires connect to the steering wheel controls?
I have a multi-meter if that helps to identify the wires... Photos here - I still can't get the club's system to work for me - https://www.use.com/Oh5Vw Thanks. |
The steering control cables are Blue/Purple and Blue/Orange.

I've connected to the blue-purple and blue-orange, every which way, but alas, no response from the steering wheel controls

If its the xtrons head unit there is a menu to set them up, mind mine seem only to work when they want

If possible, get a multi meter and check if you get a reading on the meter when pressing a button. The voltages for every button press are to be found on this forum. If the buttons react correctly you will have to examine the menu of the unit. Since you have an OEM unit I cannot tell you where to look although it wouldn't surprise me if it would be something like Settings -> Car settings -> Steering Wheel Control. Bon chance! :} |
Thanks, Sjonnie.
Mind you, whilst the radio works brilliantly, I can't get a peep out of the music on the USB, even though every song is recognised in the "Local Music" section of the menu, but just plays...silently! Now I get it as to why people shell out hundreds of pounds more to buy a unit from a shop that fits them to your car!! :) I'll have a go at the steering wheel controls over the week-end; I think I've identified the right wires, and the previous owner is helping me out with a harness which he used on his JVC head unit to make it work...not that I think it will be that easy, somehow... I will have to start pulling out my hair soon, as it has already gone grey...:) |
