Announcing 14th National Meet: Sunday 17th March 2013

Announcing the 14th National Meet
on Sunday 17th March 2013

The Club's 14th National Meet will be held on
Sunday March 17th 2013
at
The National Botanic Garden Of Wales
Llanarthne
Carmarthenshire
SA32 8HG

Between 10am and 4:30pm

The National Botanic Garden of Wales opened in May 2000 &
has been voted the number 1 ‘Wonder of Wales’, ’Most Romantic Garden’,
‘Best Children’s Garden’ & ‘Best Afternoon Tea’ by the Western Mail

They have an amazing collection of over 8,000 different plant varieties,
spread across 560 acres of beautiful countryside, and have developed
a stunning range of themed gardens that appeal to a wide range
of visitors, from those who just love the sight and smells of flowers
to those who want to know about medicinal plants or the latest
DNA research into plant evolution.

In addition, they have the world’s largest single spanned glasshouse,
designed by Lord Foster, that has the best display of Mediterranean
climate zone plants in the Northern hemisphere.

This first national of 2013 is designed to be less museum-centric
and more family orientated, with plenty for those not as
interested in all things automotive to see and experience

There are several places to eat at the gardens, with the 'Seasons'
Restaurant located in the Stable Block aiming to use foods that are
organic and as local as possible.

In addition, 'The Gatehouse Cafe' can be found at the Garden entrance.
It’s a lovely place to come and relax whilst enjoying the taste of Wales
with locally made and sourced light food and drinks. You can also buy
Welsh made produce such as laver bread, jams, cheeses & cakes.

We have a parking area set aside in the grounds themselves,
and as always there'll be the customary raffle as well as items
for sale from the Club Shop at subscribed member prices.
The Gryphon Award for best car voted by you will also be presented.

The specially reduced entrance fee for the meet is
£5.00 for adults (usual price £8.50) & £4.00 for children (5-16 years)
and includes full entry to the attraction itself.

Please indicate your interest by posting in this thread.
Entrance fees will be collected on the day,
where you will be issued with a special ticket for admission to the grounds.

MrDoodles 10th September 2012 07:27

Just a quick comment.

Do you normally have Meets this early in the year, as we can still have snow in March and the clocks won't have gone forward either?

Reebs 10th September 2012 07:41

Yes we do Mark, it's a juggling act between fitting them in around existing meets, as well as trying to space it out evenly across the year. Any earlier and it would be too cold, any later and it would be too close to the Pride Of Longbridge in April. As we have two Nationals a year, they have to be far enough apart from each other to make them worth while for those that like to attend both.

Looking back, the first ever National was on 8th January and I would imagine was bitterly cold (I wasn't around in those days), 18th March for the 4th meet at Haynes, and 6th March for the 10th National at Calne.

It's been known Mark, where's your pioneering spirit :D

I'll be attending together with Jean.

whitevanman 10th September 2012 07:46

If you would be so kind as to put us down for this one, Love Wales & Hayley loves this place so i'm not even going to bother to get her approval.

Oh yes and only two days before my birthday too! :)

I was and it was freezing I can remember poor old Ken booking every one in and he was frozen stiff

Parker 10th September 2012 17:57

For those members who may have never been to this area of the country all I say is if you can attend make a weekend of it, the coastline from Swansea west is truly magnificent with the Mumbles and the Gower plus Tenby, whatever the weather a walk along a blustery beach is pure magic. You can also go to Pendine Sands (where the Top Gear crew go) and open up that throttle, if you can get on the beach! Not sure if H & S bods have put a stop to that bit of fun:D

If you're coming down from the North forget the motorway and cut across the Brecon Beacons a fantastic drivers road (but look out for sheep). ;)

For those who have been here before, well you know what I'm talking about ;)

ChestersDad 10th September 2012 18:00

Just noticed the thread! Great venue - What luck! - The Mrs and Me will be there please......:}

Regards Ian

My calendar says that Mothering Sunday is on the 10th of March 2013. It looks like you are wrong again.

This year 2012 it did full on the 18th of March 2012

Ian G 10th September 2012 20:03

Just checked and of course you are right but I feel the the heavy type and underlining is a bit over the top!!!
In that case I'll be visiting my Mother have a good day...
Seems a poor choice of date to me...
Cheers Ian

Reebs 10th September 2012 20:26

It would seem that Derek is right having done a google search, but as Windrush often uses bold type and underline, I don't think any ill feeling was intended Ian .

I can't believe we hadn't spotted that  We'll speak to the venue to check availability for the following Sunday anyway, but as a place to take your mum it ain't bad.

Watch this space, and we'll update the thread if the date changes ;)

Now where"s my coat? :getmecoat:

Well you did say it would be more family orientated so what better day to start than on mothering Sunday. :p

Of course, I'm kidding.

Instead of updating the thread if the date changes could you confirm the date if it doesn't change as well as I want to take advantage of the £9 rooms offers.

I was going to book last night the £19 room so glad I didn't :}

Reebs 11th September 2012 11:17

Hi Paul.
Would like to try this one as sounds ideal for the missus to get lost in the gardens as she is a keen gardener. Any hotels in the area you know of.

Regards Julien

Reebs 12th September 2012 07:53

We've asked Markd3 the Welsh Regional Sec to do some local research on what's available, there is a Travelodge just 15 minutes 7 miles away from the venue at £29 per night & free parking, but I don't think it has a nice place to eat on site

You've just been deputised:D please do so and liaise with Mark. We need this resolved ASAP ;):D:D

eurorover 12th September 2012 13:01

you want the Llanelli Central East. a good place to eat would be the Bryngwyn Newydd but I will need numbers ASAP. it is a steak house which serves almost anything. It is approx 4 miles from premier inn.

Parker 12th September 2012 13:03

I should imagine you will be looking at between 15-20 people on past experience ;)

eurorover 12th September 2012 13:04

Will also need to know will members drive there or shall i arrange for taxis?

Parker 12th September 2012 13:06

Normally we drive, allocated drivers and all that. :)

eurorover 12th September 2012 13:09

Maybe in england...... this is WALES

Parker 12th September 2012 13:11

There are a few non drinkers amongst us, myself, Reebs generally doesn't and we need to keep a clear head for setting up the following day ;)

eurorover 12th September 2012 13:14

with the distance involved you would only be looking at a couple of pound per head for transport

Nearly made a massive cockup by booking the Ashburton Hotel in Pembury

for the 13/14/15/March. then realised it was the wrong weekend and had to cancel and rebook with no problems, my excuse is it is an age related thing, any way looking forward to putting names to faces and a hopefully a fine weekend would be nice,.

Hi Reebs .

Would you please clarify what date this meet will take place, when you first put this out it was the 10/03/2013 now it is the 17/03/2013.

Which one is it because I am now confused I have changed my hotel booking twice, I have now booked the tenth of March.

Regards Julien

Parker 13th September 2012 17:10

The 17th is correct, the 10th clashed with mothers day and some members thought it was not suitable to be held that day, so we changed the date to 17th within 24 hours.

Bump for those that don't know....

Please be aware, anyone who signed up early doors for the next National, that the initial date of the 10th March has been amended to the following weekend so as not to clash with Mother's Day.

The confirmed date of the next National in South Wales is:

Sunday
17th March
2013

Sorry to say this should have had a larger profile, I have now lost my initial hotel bookings. so you are all going to have to put with me at Central East.

Sorry you've been messed about, we tried to accommodate everyone when the 10th was not satisfactory  we thought it was a perfect venue being flora for a mothers day but it seemed to be not the case. You just can't please everyone :(

Hope you're all sorted now though and I'm sure it will be a great time for all on the 17th :)

Probably not, but we will know better after a site visit on 28 October :}

We are not in a Car Park, but on site... So will probably be a situation of parking in turn as you enter. :}

I know where you are coming from....... and it is a situation that is always on my mind..... As in get the Tourers all together, & V8's etc. Then get the Tourers/saloons together in engine/model sections. But the logistics of this may well preclude the capability to organise as such :( Sorry, but life has a habit of not presenting an ideal world :D:D

However, if members attending would like to arrange a meet between themselves outside of the venue grounds and arrive en-masse, then they could be much easier organised into like with like sections ;)

The parking of vehicles will depend on the site conditions and weather...... but we will know more after the site visit :D

Dragrad 28th October 2012 22:13

Did a site visit today, with Parker, to iron out some points for the venue...

As we left we saw this...... a 2012 First registered car :D

Chap on the left is the owner (Gerry) and I am hoping that he will join the club soon as he has another (secret) 75 project he's working on....

Brake lights on and passed by VOSA

He made a note of the date of the National, and as he is a local, he will do his utmost to be there:D

In light of events regarding a well loved member I will not be attending any official meetings organized by the club until the injustice is undone and his status returned to normal
